As soon as Jace saw the werewolf nearly trample down Isabelle and smash through the window, he knew that someone needed to take action or else they would lose her and she would wreak havoc.

“Luke!” Jace shouted, getting the werewolf’s attention. “Follow her! Make sure that she doesn’t do anything; we’ll follow right behind you.”

Luke nodded his head—although it was rather awkward looking with him being in his wolf form—and dashed to the window, deftly jumping out the hole that was already made.

Alec sighed and tugged at the bottom hem his vest, a sign of his frustration. Isabelle tightened her weapon’s belt and it looked like she was kicking herself for letting Selene get away. Jace would be kicking her soon too; he was upset!

“What was that, Isabelle? You let her get away!” Jace snapped.

“I couldn’t break the Accords!” Isabelle snapped back.

“It wouldn’t be breaking any laws if that Downworlder was dangerous!” Jace said, starting to get frustrated. He was still upset that the little punk had punched him. “She’s dangerous the way she is now! Do you not understand that? She’s a threat to everyone in her path and like any werewolf on a full moon, her only desire is to hunt and destroy! Isabelle! You could have stopped her!”

“Don’t yell at me!” she screamed back in his face, taking a menacing step forward to show him that she wasn’t going to step down. “Just shut up, Jace!”

Alec finally stepped in and broke the two apart when it looked like they were about to start exchanging blows. “That’s enough!” he yelled, the volume of his voice rising far above both of theirs. “Both of you shut up! Instead of arguing over this, shouldn’t we be focusing on what’s really important right now? Finding the werewolf and getting her under control? Now both of you, quit acting like children and let’s do our jobs!”

Isabelle and Jace exchanged looks, turned to Alec, and then looked back at each other. They were both stubborn and would always be the last ones to admit they were wrong, but Alec was always the one to smack them upside the head and make them stop. They both crossed their arms over their chest and shrugged; it was like they had been through this whole process before.

Alec nodded approvingly, still looking at them sternly. “Alright,” he said, after the tension in the room had eased. “Now let’s go. I’m sure the Selene and Luke left quite a trail for us to follow.”

They did end up following a trail to a rather poor neighborhood of Manhattan. They ended up at a small house. The lawn was dead and the paint of the house was chipping away. The shingles on the roofs were loose and old; it looked like the house might collapse at any moment. It was definitely small in comparison to the Institute. But the three Shadowhunters paid no attention to the shabby, one-story house, and proceeded on the property with caution.

It was quiet, just as it should be in the dead of night, but that was the unsettling thing. There was no sound coming from inside the house, though they did notice that the door had been busted open. There was no sound of fighting, or any kind of struggle.

Jace took the lead and entered first, checking inside the front hall for any sign of traps. He waved Alec and Isabelle to follow when he deemed that it was safe. They quickly scanned the house—which was definitely just as small on the inside as it was on the outside—and found that there was nothing that seemed unusual, besides the sloppiness of no proper house cleaning in who knows how long?

Then something caught Alec’s ear; he heard a faint sound…something that was akin too… “Sobbing?” he said aloud.

Jace jumped at the sudden noise and was about to tell Alec to stop being ridiculous when he heard it too. “What is that?”
