“I’m sorry…”

Selene looked up when she heard a sort of hesitant voice, almost as if the person was afraid to come up and talk to her; she was kind of curious but also very upset that someone interrupted her self loathing.

She looked up and saw the little red head that she kind of met, kind of didn’t meet the other day; Luke called her “Clary,” right? She had never heard that name before…but then again, a lot of people never heard of the names “Selene” or “Semca” before they meet the two.

She focused back on Clary; she gave her a critical eye, trying to decipher why in the world she was there, standing over her looking at Selene like she was a stray dog ready to bite her… ‘Well,’ Selene thought to herself. She briefly wondered if she could grow fangs or claws without becoming all wolf.

And with that thought, she remembered the feeling of being a wolf; that feeling of uncontrol, where she could do nothing but watch as everything else played out around. She never wanted to have that feeling again… Selene quickly reverted back to her depressed state. God, when did she become so damn moody?

“Are you alright?” Clary asked after a moment of silence, snapping Selene out of her thoughts.

Selene thought of ignoring the girl, but quickly decided against that; what was she thinking? People may have described Selene as being indifferent about a lot of things, but never exactly rude.

“Yeah,” Selene said, giving a half-hearted answer and blatantly lying to herself and Clary. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

Clary blinked; from the expression on her face, she either didn’t care or decided not to comment on how Selene answered.

“You’re the werewolf, right?” Clary asked bluntly.

Selene sucked in a sharp breath; her head shot up at that point to give Clary a dirty look; despite the girl’s fragile appearance, she didn’t cringe at Selene’s glare.

She growled, much like an actual dog and wondered if to Clary she really did look like a wolf at this point; glowing yellow eyes, pointed canines, sharp claws.

“How the hell can you say that so easily? What is wrong with everyone in this place?” Selene snapped harshly.

“I’ve been through the same thing that you’re going through,” Clary said, not skipping a beat or backing down at Selene’s menacing tone. “Thrust into a world I know nothing about and being forced to adapt, having to leave my old life behind and learn some things I wish I never had to learn…” Clary had this far off look in her eyes, as if she were watching a painful memory being performed right in front of her.

This definitely caught Selene’s attention; she studied the girl carefully. She was so tiny…she couldn’t be any older than Semca. What Clary said…did this mean? She was a werewolf as well? Or was she something else that even she didn’t know about yet? Hell, she could have been a demon for all she knew! What was this world she was living in?

At this point, she felt like her whole life was a lie. How many of her friends growing up had been werewolves or vampires or shit like that? Were there monsters like that on the subway? Did she surround herself by these creatures everyday? Interact with them?

Maybe her father had been a vampire…he did suck the life out of her.

“I’m Clary,” the red head introduced, snapping herself out of her own thoughts.

Selene was half-tempted to say that she already knew that, but she didn’t really have the energy for that or anything else for that manner. “I’m Selene,” she said casually, trying to make it sound like she didn’t care about anyone or anything, but she was sure she probably just sounded like a moody teenager. Honestly, what was wrong with her? She was a grown woman! Was she always so immature?
