Arrest my Heart Lady Cop

CHAPTER 1

8:00 o’clock in the morning

At last the long hand of the clock reaches the number 12.  That also means that my long tiresome and stressful duty comes to an end.  I stretched my arms and legs trying to loosen the tired muscles of my body.  My weary mind is begging for some rest.  Being in the service for ten long years really makes a difference.  At 31 I easily get tired now.

I took my jacket and cap and stand up from my desk. I heard my joints crackling… perhaps my bones are adjusting to its new position. I walked towards the portion of our office where our lockers are located.  I need to change clothes.  After the 12 hours night shift, I feel so sticky in my uniform.  I wonder who make the design of the uniform of the police.  Whoever he/she is, how I wish he/she could wear this for 12 straight hours under the heat of the sun or under the rain so he/she may know that this is so uncomfortable to wear.

I opened my locker and took one clean khaki shorts and a t-shirt.  I immediately changed my uniform and fold it neatly inside my bag. I checked my badge and ID on my wallet and put it inside my pocket.  Lastly, I took my .45 caliber firearm, check it to make sure that its safety.  I tucked it on my holster and cover it with my jacket.  I didn’t mind to comb my long brown hair, instead I let it loose on my shoulder.  I believe that even hair should be given rest too.

“Villegas, Col. Santos wants you in his office ASAP”, called Brix.  He is my reliever.  

“What is it all about man?” I asked trying to suppress a yawn.  Col. Santos is our Chief in the Special Weapon and Tactics Team or the SWAT Team. Before I forgot to tell you… I am Police Officer 3 Shannon Villegas, the only female member of SWAT Team in our station.  

“Maybe a new case…he didn’t told me anything.” Brix answered in an uninterested tone.  

I carried my bag and went to our chief’s office.  He is drinking coffee as usual while reading the newspaper.

“Good Morning Sir!” I greeted and give him my snappy salute.  He didn’t look up but instead motioned me to enter.

“It’s your off duty now, right?”

“Yes sir!”

“Captain Rios will be arriving today.  He will be your new team leader because Captain Ledesma was already relieved last week and will be assigned to the main office.”

I didn’t say a word because I am not yet over the fact that Captain Ledesma was relieved.  He is our team leader for the last 5 years and I cannot deny the closeness and the bond he formed among the member of the team.  He is a good leader and also a good listener. He is not only a team leader for us his subordinates but also a father.  So many times during our dangerous operations that he gave us courage and led us to our success.  As a result, we received many awards and commendation medals.  

“Castro already fetched him in the airport and will deliver him to wherever he wanted to be temporarily billeted.  However, you will be the one to accompany Captain Rios this evening to the dinner party of the City Mayor.”

“What? Why me sir?” I asked with a tone of protest.  I’ve been waiting for this day to come because I am planning to have the luxury of sleep that I obviously lack.  But now…I will be escorting the new officer to a dinner party? And to think that I haven’t known him yet.

“Shannon…don’t act like a child.  I know that your loyalty is still with Ledesma but you need to move on.  You have a new team leader now and he will need all the support you and your team mates can give.  Remember, SWAT Team is a team…you work as a group not an individual.  Thus, erase  that stubbornness inside your head and be a professional.”
