It was one of those nights. Dean can feel it. Another night full of tossing, turning and nightmares. And one would assume that someone like Dean Winchester could never be afraid of anything. It seems obvious after everything he's been through. And yet, every once in a while, Dean has these nights.

Even as Dean was just getting into bed, the images were already starting. Painful visuals of his baby brother, bloodied, broken, and worst of all unsavable.

It's not real. Dean grunts, rolls onto his back, pinching the bridge of his nose. He contemplates for the thousandth time why he still chooses a life of hunting. After he quiets his mind just enough, he callously throws his arm to his bedside table. There it is, he thinks as he grabs a half-drunken beer. A quick swig and he puts the bottle back, bracing himself for what is coming.

His mind wanders again; this time conjuring images of an angel. His angel. Dean sees his angel, sticky crimson blood trickling down his face from a gash in his forehead. Dean wants to do something, but he is removed from this nightmare, just a spectator, unable to interfere.

Dean sees his angel fighting, losing... dying. And then- the one sound that could make the Hunter's blood run cold.

The sound of an angel blade dropping into someone's hand.

Dean howls animalistically and pained as he watches the blade pierce the heart of his angel. Everything disappears. The angel's lifeless body falls to the floor, huge charred angel wings searing into the concrete only seconds later.

Suddenly Dean is there, in the nightmare. "CAS!" The Hunter sprints toward his angel harder than he ever has, tears unstoppably pouring from his eyes. He reaches what is now a corpse, drops to his knees and cradles him. "Cas..." he manages, a voice shattered and broken. "Cas, I love you."

Dean's eyes snap open, the world blurry through leftover tears. But he isn't alone. The Hunter is held in the arms of his angel. Castiel smiles, seeing his Dean awake and wipes away the tears. The angel leans in and plants a soft kiss on Dean's lips.

"I love you too."
