I know when I started writing on wattpad, I was a little confused on how to describe and punctuate things because, in school no one taught me how to use this ; or this — and, looking back on my first story, I really sucked. Now, I've been reading much more books for older kids (15-17) and I'm not talking about the maturity. What you read influences your writing. You don't want to be reading a book for twelve-year-olds if you are fourteen. Read something that you know you can learn from (ex. Twilight, Jane Eyre).
When I read, as well as getting lost in the plot, I focus on punctuation, spelling and vocabulary so I can use that in my writing. In fact, I have a list of interesting words I've picked up on whilst reading both wattpad and legitimate books.
It's a good idea to jot down words you think "hey — I could use that for my writing!"
Hopefully you find what you're looking for in this book. Much love xx
