I yawned.
It'd been about a week since I first met the young Dragon. He'd grown almost as tall as me in that time. His wings, when full spread, were almost twice his size.
He'd grown a lot on me. He was spunky and loving. He was protective over anything that was his and he was careful with them too. He was bursting with emotions all the time, which made my own respond. I told him of everything that was going on in the world, from the new world leaders, to everything I new about the races that lived here.
I told him the stories my father told me, and the people we met on the road.
I told him everything about me. It seemed the more I told him, the more protective he became.
The wolves did WHAT to him? How does anyone live with these filthy creatures?
I continued to munch on my rabbit. We were on the out skirts of a Elven town.
I need supplies, and Amen was curious to see the other races I had talked so much about.
I offered him the bones of my leftovers. He had a weird fascination with them. He claimed he wanted to sharpen all the ones we could find and put them on a chain to wear to make him look fierce. I thought it was weird, but agreed to give him mine. I only used the smaller ones to sharpen my teeth.
We made our own way towards the town. In and out. Easy peasy, right? Elves weren't exactly fond of us werecats, but they tolerated us since we were on there side in the war.
We werecats helped the Elves against the werewolves and humans. The Dragons, like I said earlier, were trying to stay out of the war. The whole thing started when a werewolf took a human as a mate and we deemed them wrong. Our four races stayed away from the humans. We were the supernatural that the humans could only dream of. Now that the war has started, the humans have learned of all of us, and they sided with the wolves. Mutts, all of them.
Thinking of the war always brought out my fighting side. I could wipe out a whole pack with one swipe of my paw! Stupid werewolves.
Coming upon the gates, I flashed my fangs in a greeting. They opened them, and I walked through, looking around. Elven cities were beautiful. Green everywhere, with every color imaginable in the plants surrounding the houses.
It was hard not to be in awe of the Elves. They were beautiful in themselves. They looked almost human, except they had tapered ears and cat like eyes. They had the felines grace like the werecats too.
Everything was natural around them. They used the land in all ways. Their medicines were all out of the plants, and were more efficient than most of the humans nasty stuff.
Heads turned as we made our way into town. I was nervous. I knew Amen being with me would give me points with the Elves, but I was still hesitant. I remember the stories of the Elven/Werecat war. It was terrible. Both species were almost extinct afterwards the fighting was so brutal. Dragons and Werewolves stayed away from it, neither wanting to be apart.
The wide eyes and smiles put my nerves on end. I could feel my ears flickering back wards in annoyance. The humming of the Elves language would soon get to much, which is why we had to made this visit quick. I couldn't be the one to start another war between us, but knowing my anger, it was bound to happen. My tail twitched, whipping back and forth.
The city was called Faycrest, the second biggest Elf city. All three were beautiful.
Dragons were the one race that every other respected. The Dragons were older than time, and to have lived this long, and adapted as well, was incredible.
I could feel the elves staring at us as we walked to the shopping center. I quicken my pace, ready to be back on the road. They gathered the stuff we needed, then we paid. I was so ready to get out. I could feel my cat growing uneasy in the confinement of my mind, which only served to put me more on edge. The Elves scents were overpowering. It hurt my nose. They were glorious scents anyone would be proud to have. But with my strong nose, those pretty scents turned sickly sweet and made me want to gag.
"Werecat, Dragon." Two simple words from the sing song voice of an Elf. I could feel my back stiffen. Damn, I thought. I had hoped they would just let us in and out with talking to us, but they apparently had a different thought process. I so didn't want to do this.
Perque? Amen asked nervously. I still hadn't turned around, which was rude. I sent comforting thoughts to him, to put his nerves on ease.
Slowly turning, I took in the Elf who had approached us. He was tall, like the rest of them, with striking black hair and the most gorgeous blue eyes I've ever seen.
"Yes, Elf?" My tone was polite, as if I were talking to a random person on the street. Which really, if you think about it, I was. He had crinkle lines from laughing. It made me wonder if he had a lover. I immediately scolded myself. I couldn't afford to think like that.
"Dirigeant Selinde of Faycrest would like to see the Werecat and her Dragon," He said, studying me. He stood to his full height, which was about 6'1". He towered over my 5'5". His hands were clasped behind his back, his broad shoulders straight. He was muscled, but not overly so. My mind went to the gutter thinking of him over me. I could feel my gaze narrow at the mention of Selinde. Dirigeant was ruler in French, the Elves native tongue. What would the governor want with me? And Amen?
It dawned on me then. They would use me like a pawn because of my youth. Selinde would try to get Amen and I on her side in the war. Amen was not on a side, which she figured would mean if Amen were to side with the Werewolves and Humans, I would too.
I kept my eyes narrowed on him, calculating. I saw him shift under my gaze, as if he was nervous, or even wary of us.
"Take me to her then," I instructed, my voice filled with crippling power.
