It had been only a week since we've been in Faycrest. The training was going good, Selinde still creeped me out.
It was like she was waiting for something from me. A sign or something big.
The training was slowly but surely coming along. No one had gotten good enough to beat me or Amen, but they were working on it. Drudon was improving daily. He was actually opening to the learning and to my pointers as the time progressed. We learned a lot about each other from the fighting. We asked questions while sparring. I think the others thought it was funny when one of us would ask the other what their favorite color was, then not even two seconds later, the one in question was on their back from the distraction.
The males had all had their pride deflated at some point by me or Amen. He helped a lot, Amen did. When he wasn't off helping the Hunters.
"Straighten your back," I called to one of the others I was walking by.
Turning my head, I came face-to-face with Drudon. I nodded at him. He seemed to understand I wasn't one for words. He smiled at me. "I have a question," he stated.
I stared at him for a few moments, waiting. "Well?"
"Oh, uhm. I just wanted to ask..." He trailed off, his cheeks heating up.
I grew impatient with the stuttering, and knocked him lightly on the head. "Spit it out, Elf. I haven't got all day."
He studied me for a moment. I had a feeling I knew where this was going, and if I was correct, it was not welcome.
"Will you go on a date with me?"
I glowered at him. He'd grown bold in the week we'd been here, and he was getting on Amens nerves. Frankly, he was getting on mine too. I wasn't a romantic person. At all. I hated cheesy stuff and didn't want a relationship. Not while a War was raging around us.
"No," I said it calmly, like he should have expected my answer.
"Why?" He was angry. I hadn't hinted at all to the attraction I had for him, but he felt it too, and he was ready to act on it. I, however, wasn't.
"Because." It was blunt, saying I have a reason, but I don't feel like sharing. We had gotten a few peoples attention, and they were trying to keep the shock off their faces. Apparently Drudon was a ladies man, ready to fuck everything that walked. They thought I'd get caught up in his lies and secrets and be like all the others. I refused. That would not be happening to me.
Turning from him, I called over my shoulder, "Training's off today. Find a new partner until next time."
I walked away after that. I'd been a few days since I'd been in any form except Human and my cat was itching to get out.
I walked until I was at the edge of the city. I had my senses tuned into the forest, and nothing was in a ten mile radius. I was glad. I wasn't fond of showering in the rooms. My cat would much prefer I got into a river or cleaned with her tongue. Both felt more refreshing than the Elves could ever give me.
Stripping, I jumped into the tree. I didn't shift. I stayed naked and acted out my impulses in human form. I climbed around. I stayed close to the river, but I wary. It was too quiet. No animals where in that radius and it was weird. We were one Elven lands, the animals should be bountiful.
I jumped back down after another moment. It didn't make any sense. Where were they?
A snap sounded behind me. I shifted Feral, spinning in the same moment. Werewolf assaulted my nose. I snarled, throwing my mind out and around the wolfs, calling for Amen. He had to be close.
The animals made sense now. Wolves, like my cat, were natural predators, making the animals hide in safety until the threat had passed. I should have known.
The wolf had power radiating from him. He was either a Alpha, or a Heir. The thought didn't make me comfortable, to say the least. Alphas and their kids, Heirs, where stronger than any other wolf, gaining them the status. They also knew how to fight, since they would always be the ones to lead an attack.
He was in his human form, the one he fought best in. All wolves felt more comfortable in their human bodies, the complete opposite being said for Werecats. This fact meant I had to get his wolf angry enough to take control and make him shift. It would hurt him, since it was forced, giving me a small opening to attack him first.
"Cat." A simple word, but had so many effects on my body. I shivered and closed my eyes briefly. The voice was dark and molten, running down my body smoothly, like it was made to be there. I felt my eyes glow.
Mate.
Wolf.
Myself and my cat were finally at a disagreement. Like hell this damned wolf was my mate. But this was the one I wouldn't be able to resist. My eyes opened slowly, a growl coming from my throat. I knew what I was going to do. Him being my mate wouldn't change anything. I'd attack him, drive him out of our lands, and deal with the repercussions later. Selinde would be pissed I let our most valuable pawn in the War get away, but oh well. I'd say someone had finally beat me.
I could feel the fur on my shoulders twitch, my tail doing the same. I was ready to pounce. I refused to look at his eyes. There was a possibility that he didn't know yet, and I could get away without him ever knowing. He hadn't seen my eyes, or heard my voice. To him I was a cat with a appealing scent.
I stared at his nose. Everything about him was perfection. The slight curve of his nose, his square jaw, and the sharp chin. The high cheekbones, which were very prominent. Everything.
I snarled again, daring him to make the first move. He did. He jump at me, a beginners mistake. He seemed to realize that, for he started to backpedal. Before he could, I latched my fangs into his calf. He growled, baring his flat teeth at me. I tried reaching for Amen again. Where the hell was he at at a time like this? I finally got through his walls.
I kinda need your help right now.
Where are you? What's happening there? We're under attack.
I know. I've found a Werewolf, either a Alpha or a Heir. Amen, I need you to let the Elves fight for themselves for a minute. This Werewolf is my mate. I can't let him know.
As we started discussing the plan, the Wolf still struggled. Just shift already, damn it! Why'd he have to be so stubborn? I chomped my jaws down harder and got a howl in return. I even tried grating my teeth on the bone, but he just made a choking noise.
I unlocked my teeth, quickly backing up. I couldn't stand the taste of his blood in my mouth. It made me want to hurl. I lashed my tail back and forth, growling.
He growled back. It was so powerful it shook me to my core. I could feel my should fur twitching again. What was he doing to me?
