Lily frowned and opened her mouth to ask another question, but was cut off by a loud BOOM.
She whirled around to find Sirius's face gaping open mouthed at his ruined cauldron and Marlene frantically stamping the fire out of her robes, all while using quite colorful language to threaten him and his "favorite body part".
James burst out laughing at the sight of Sirius's smoking hair and Marlene's fierce scowl.
Lily hurried over, quickly muttering "Aguamenti" while pointing to both Sirius's hair and Marlene's uniform.
Slughorn waddled over, taking in the mess. "Very nicely done Miss Evans. 5 points to Gryffindor for reacting so quickly."
He clapped his hands, "Everyone get back to work now."
"Hey Evans..." James called. "Can you check this out?"
Lily sprinted back, worried that her potion was being ruined by the idiot who went by the name of James Potter.
To her delight, the potion had begun to take up the mother-of-pearl sheen that it was known for.
"Well?" James asked, puffing his chest up. "What do you think?"
Lily took a whiff.
She scrunched her nose up, pretending to think. "I smell wet grass, rain, and..."
James's face lit up. He had requested Quidditch practice for his team this morning. It had been drizzling... could it be?
Lily smirked internally, knowing that it was a bit unfair to play with James's emotions.
"A polish that I think that someone on the Gryffindor team uses."
James frowned. "Broom polish?"
"Nope..." Lily replied, "More like polish for a Beater's bat."
