"... So, she's going to be ok?" I heard someone ask to my right.

"Yes, that's correct. She has a few bruises here and there and she had a concussion, but that's it," someone, who sounded a lot like my doctor, explained.

I groaned and slowly opened my eyes. I blinked repeatedly. Was I dreaming?

"Alexa!!" the person I heard the first time, now I could make out, who was my mother, shouted. She engulfed me in a huge hug and I felt searing pain shoot through me. But I didn't care. So I hugged her back just as tightly.

"What happened?" I ask, looking around, and I notice someone close to my bed on my left. Drake. How is that possible? I haven't seen him since 2nd grade!!

"You got hit by a truck, honey," she answers, her eyes watery. A truck? WHAT?!

I sit up and turn my body fully to face her.

"Mom, what is Drake doing here?" I ask as I tug on her sleeve to get her attention after she turned to speak to the doctor.

"Oh, you mean that boy?" she asks, as she points in Drake's direction with her thumb.

No, the next door neighbor! "Yeah," I reply.

"Oh. Well, he's the one who called the ambulance and hasn't left the room since you got here," she starts. She glances at him quickly with confusion and suspicion in her eyes. "Who is he?" she asks.

I mentally roll my eyes. He practically saved my life, and she's suspicious of him?

"He's my best friend from my old school," I say. "His name's Drake."

She nods and turns to look at his sleeping figure with a skeptical look.

"Anywho, I'll leave you to wake him up. I'll be back, ok? Love you," she says.

"Ok. Love you too," I respond. She quickly throws me a kiss and leaves the room.

As the door shuts, I immediately whip my face to look at him and what startles me is that he's already staring at me.

For a minute, neither of us speak, each of us gawking at each other.

Before I could open my mouth to break the silence though, he waves.

Yes, I repeat. He waves. WAVES.

I shoot him a glare and don't wave back.

"What happened?" I ask with my arms crossed, not softening my glare.

He sighs and drops his hand from the air.

"I guess it's time I told you," he says. I raise my eyebrows at that, mentally telling him to continue as I let my arms fall beside me.

"Alexa, do you remember the day you met me?" he asks.

I think back to kindergarten, the year I met him and realize that no, I don't remember the day I met him, which surprises me quite a bit.

I slowly shake my head, my eyes filling with curiosity and surprise.

He nods, as if he was expecting that.

"Well, that's because I removed that memory, because if I hadn't, you would have been suspicious of me from the beginning," he says. My mouth falls open. Why would I be suspicious of him, anyway?

"Uh huh," I say, urging him to keep going.

He takes a deep breath, and then he lets the air come back out as his chest deflates. "You, Alexandra Crystal Ryder, are a Nobber."
