First of all, welcome to my "All Time Favourite Malay Songs: Translation and Viewpoint" ebook. Thank you for taking your time viewing this. My only intention here is to compile my list of favourite Malay songs and share their meanings with those who are interested in knowing them.
I would like to warn you that I am actually a total novice in all kinds of translation. I am also not a fluent Malay speaker due to my background and upbringing (I'm a Malay-Chinese-Thai-Indian mix) hence the translation may differ from the original meaning - or worst, just plain wrong. However, I still want to use this opportunity to relearn my mother tongue and improve my own writing.
The Malay songs that I will mostly translate will be Malay songs from Malaysia (the Malay language is also widely used in Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei so I have to specify it). Until I gained more experience and confidence in doing this project, I will put aside my favourite Malay songs from other countries until later (unless I receive help from the native speakers).
Aside from the translation, I will also insert my opinions and notes every now and then. I sincerely apologise in advance if these opinions and notes contain major flaws or irrelevant to the songs. You may leave your own comments to give your opinions whenever or wherever appropriate.
The format that I am thinking of is simple:
Title: (song title) by (singer/band)
Video: Youtube video of the song (hopefully with lyrics)
About: A brief facts or history about the song or singer (if I know about them. Otherwise, I will skip this)
Body: Original lyrics (cut into parts) with translation. I will insert any comments below each part.
Additional Notes: I will give my overall opinion about the song under this section
I will update any changes later if they are necessary but so far so good ^^
