Imagine. Your a very lonely person in class with no one to work with because your not friends with anyone. Then all of a sudden this person comes up to you and asks to hang out with you since they don't have friends either. So of course you accept their request because you think that you'll finally no longer be lonely.
You grow your friendship with this person by hanging out with them at breaks, lunch, after school, just all the time. They soon introduce you to one of their best friends. You think this is really good because it shows that they trust you. You soon hang out with them more and more to the point that it's just a natural to spend the weekend at their house. You even spend the entire spring break with this person. You think "This is one of the best friendships you've ever had in a short amount of time!"
Then you start seeing the ugly side of your friend. They start picking on you by calling you a slut. "It's just a joke." your friend says. Your also being told that your a bad student, you're over emotional, slacker, procrastinator, or just a plain idiot. You start feeling bad, but your rub it off saying it's just a joke. You don't think about it for a while. Your not feeling so good when you hang out with this person, so you hang out with other people.
Their really nice to you, so you start hanging out with them instead. All of a sudden you're sitting at the lunch table with the kids you wanted to be friends with last year. You even join in on the conversation. You soon feel great. After a while you start to notice that your friend is joining the group again and usually sits next to you. You decide that maybe you shouldn't ignore them anymore, so you start talking with them again. They soon tell you that they only sit next to you because everyone talks to you, so they tried to soak in some of the popularity and start using you to talk to others. Once again, it didn't make you feel very good, so you try escaping from them once more. It doesn't work though. They keep coming in even though you want them out.
You finally escape for a bit and find yourself in a relationship. It's going very well for a very long time. Nothing much happens with your friend. They use you every now and then, but you've basically ignored them and payed more attention to your relationship. All of a sudden your relationship hits a rocky patch. You're finding it very hard to want to stay with your other. You wait a couple weeks.
In those weeks you decided to talk with your friend again. You tell them that you want to break up with your other. They get a bit upset at you and treat you like a bad guy. You end up brushing it off and moving on. You later go hang out with your friend and your friends best friend. At first it starts off fine. Then they start picking on you a bit by calling you a slut again. You try and let it not effect you. Then later they start saying things that they don't like about you or what you say. That really brings you down, so you go home and cry.
You constantly try talking within the friend group, but they now control it. You try to make friendly conversation, but they completely blow you off and don't really talk to you. On the last day of school you spent most of your time wandering around trying to find a friend to hang out with. You feel pathetic.
You hang out with this one friend for most of the school year. This one friend of yours was told to not talk/hang out with you that much anymore because that's what your one friend does all the time. Luckily your one friend doesn't listen to them. The sad thing is you basically have no friends for the next grade. Your best friend is moving schools and your almost on your own. Your so called friends were being quite selfish and rude.
It hurts to imagine right?
