"A trip to tokyo?!" I screamed in the middle of class while standing up and slamming my hands with a small mountain on it.
"Yes (y/n) is there a problem with a class trip like that?" My sassy english teacher replied raising an eyebrow.
The entire class turned in my direction in response to my sudden commotion. I mumble a quiet "nothing" before getting seated.
As an American girl from a fairly poor family, going to Tokyo, Japan was an idea unheard of. I was awestruck by the idea of visiting the lovely and ever so hyped up country.
I couldnt help but immediately start drawing a plane flying to the tokyo tower on my hand. It was a message that i had to send to my soulmate. Soulmates had drawings appear on each other like that.
Surprisingly enough, no matter who tried, no one could write words of any language on their body. It would immediately just vanish, like a magician doing magic tricks on you.
I got a reply back from my soulmate on the way to eat lunch after school. I was walking towards a cafe famous amongst students with my friend Danielle.
He drew a little smiley face beside the Tokyo tower and drew an arrow from the smiley face pointing to it.
"What does that mean?" I ask Danielle as we sat down waiting for the menue.
"Maybe he's visiting Japan too?" She replied.
"Wouldn't he be pointing to the plane then?" I asked back.
"Maybe he's not very intelligent." She said trying to muffle the sounds of her laughter.
I roll my eyes,"Shut up. Just because you have a perfect soulmate who's smart and sporty and artsy and good looking doesnt mean you can insult mine." I smile back.
We continued talking and eventually eating before leaving for home. On that day itself I tell my parents the surprise and start to pack up, more or less ready for the trip that was a month away.
The month passes and im already on my way to Japan. The entire way in the plane i stared at my hand trying to figure out what he meant by that smiley face and the new drawing today, a totoro beside a house with the sun directly above it.
"Dont you want to play video games like you normally do?" Danielle asks.
I decide she's right and decided to play pokemon.
The plane lands and we all settle in our hotel rooms. After a quick meeting with our teachers we were free to do whateverwe wanted for the first day.
My friends and i decided to go to the studio ghibli museum way before hand and we couldn't be more excited. We get into our most comfortable clothes and head off for the famous museum.
The time was roughly around noon when we got there. We made it just in time for our booking and headed right in, feeling a new level of excitement.
The museum had a home-y feel to it. It didn't look very big from the outside and surely didnt look like a museum from the inside and out. They had huge structures of all my favourite characters and places dedicated to famous areas in movies.
There was a huge catbus from the movie My Neighbour Totoro, gigantic structures from Laputa Castle in the Sky and many more famous statues and architectures.
My friends and i had arrived to a huge totoro statue. Surprisingly there wasn't much crowd there except for a bunch of teenage japanese boys hanging around the area.
I swear one had spiky bed head hair, he sure as hell disnt even comb it and another one had dyed white highlighted hair. It was the first time i had seen such a different hair style that i couldnt help but stare.
