"WHAT IS IT?"
"The first task..."
"THE FIRST FREAKING TASK!!"

Once you figured what exactly you'd be facing, all of your worries melted away. Special thanks to London, that is, with her amazing talent of eavesdropping outside the professors' lounge. Everyone knew you could handle yourself in this task, everyone except Newt.

Although he thought he knew you best, based on your quite sudden and intimate relationship, he didn't. You had only known him for a few months, while your other friends had known you for six years. They knew you were a perfect flier, absolutely stunning in the air. You all had refrained from telling Newt, however, just to see how scared you could make him.

When the headmaster, Professor Dippet, called all the champions during breakfast, you got up without a worry in your mind. Walking to the tent outside the Forbidden Forest, you kept yourself composed while the other champions laughed at you. You laughed with them and tuned them out, focused on what you'd be doing shortly. Outside the tent, you saw an arrangement of stands that were partly inside the forest, and part outside. You walked into the tent.

"Okay, glad you all actually showed up." said Dippet, unrolling a piece of parchment and settling his glasses on his nose. "In this task, you will be flying through the forest, trying to catch this golden snitch." He held up the snitch, sitting quietly and still on his hand. "You have unlimited time to catch it, so the first one to catch it wins. Got it?"

The three of you nodded as Professor Dippet started to walk away, then he turned back. "I might also warn you that the trees in our forest will pull you in with them if you hit their branches." he said, earning a gulp from you, your nerves racking up again. "They're known for being very violent, so if you're in grave trouble, please use this spell." He handed the three of you a ripped out piece of parchment which read, Periculum. "It'll help notify us so we can come save you. Good luck."

As he walked away, he whispered into your ear, "Win this for Hogwarts, please Y/N?"

You smiled and nodded. "I've got this."

Newt busted through the slit of the tent and ran straight in for a hug, making you squeal. He seized your wrist and dragged you to the nearest corner of the extravagant tent. "Are you ready?" he asked, resting his hands on your shoulders and gazing into your eyes seriously.

"Uh, I think so." you said confidently with a hint of sarcasm. "You haven't seen me fly yet."

"I'm serious—"

"Just because I didn't try out for the quidditch team doesn't mean I can't fly, Newt!" you screamed.

"I trust you." he said, sighing. He glanced away, his eyes watering up again like the day before. "But, the trees—"

"I'll just have to avoid them," you said, "won't I?"

Newt smiled. "I believe in you. But I don't know what I'd do if I lost you." he whimpered, burying his nose into your shoulder and letting his tears slip out silently. "You're my only true friend."

"I'm not gonna die." you whispered soothingly, pulling your shoulder out from under him and forcing him to look you in the eyes again. Pushing a stray piece of hair out of his face, you stared back at him. "Cheer up. When this tournament is over, we'll just look back on it and laugh, okay?"

He nodded and backed up, pressing his lips together and wrapping his scarf around his neck again, bracing himself for the cold. After he left, he rushed back in to give you a quick kiss on the cheek and rushed out again, leaving you blushing like an idiot.
