“RIGGS! Get your ass over here now!” My boss, Jason shouted over the loud music pumping through the sound system at the car garage.

“Coming Jason!” I shout back and get out from under the car I was fixing. I ran with oil clinging to my cheeks to Jason’s office. “Here Jason.” I exclaimed as he looked up from his computer.

“Ah, Riggs, happy to see you today. I have three clients for you today. They all have problems with their engines. You’ll be getting extra for the three. Probably adding up to $700, by the time I finished dealing with them, but that’s not including tips and things. Oh and before you leave, if you stay late with my car I’ll give you $300. Sound reasonable?” I nodded with giddy delight and skipped from the room going back to my work.

I had made it to the tools table when I heard someone come in and walk into Jason’s office. I heard shouting but couldn’t make it out. Probably another client. I looked into Jason’s little office window and noticed a man in a black and white suit and shades, reminding me of Men In Black. There were three other men with him though, not two. They all looked old and serious. Jason’s face paled and when he caught me looking at him he passed me a glare. The men left.

I finished the work I had to do and hurried home, not wanting to caught by an alien.

The aliens. Beautiful and scary creatures. They looked exactly like humans and acted like us and had the same emotions but their eyes were different. They always have a small bubble of light inside their pupil. It was weird. The first one I had ever encountered was a young ma- alien, about my age, named Jake Witheral, who seemed nice. He asked me out and we went out for 2 months before he broke my heart and joined the army leaving me, then died, well he really went M. I. A. but they never find them after that. I had sworn to never love again. Young men would look me up and down when I walked by and asked to walk with me but I always said no. I couldn’t love again. It would be too sad.

I walked into the house I shared with my step brother. When my mother had died in a car accident my kind step father stepped in. My step bother on the other hand was two years older than me, but was a real nuisance. He held parties almost every night and got drunker than hell. If he hadn’t been so adorable I might have been furious, but he usually invited me to the parties and I always gladly accepted. He was a real older brother to me, always looking out for me. My step father was never home, and one day we had received word that he had passed away and everything was left to us, including his multi-billionaire fortune. My step brother, Stephen was sad that his dad was gone but held a party for him.

I looked around the eerily dark house and walked up to my room. I turned the knob on my door and,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ADELAIDE!

All my friends and my step brother sang out. I smiled and laughed giddily. I had forgotten it was my birthday. I walked up to Stephen and hugged him then kissed him on the cheek and went over to all my other friends, guys and girls alike, giving them all hugs and kisses. They all dragged me downstairs and the party began. Tyler my best guy friend at the moment and I danced our hearts out on the dancefloor. It was my 18th birthday afterall. I drank a glass of wine and had already had more than enough wine. I went up to my room at 3 am and crashed onto my bed, feeling it dip as someone else climbed on with me.

I woke in the morning at 5:30 am with a big headache from getting drunk last night. I looked around at my room. Tyler was asleep on my bed, he had taken his shirt off and I noticed his sixpack from playing rugby. But I was more concerned when I saw Cindy in my chair asleep in my step brother’s lap. Their hair matched in colour, blonde. But Stephen had deep blue eyes and she had jade coloured ones. I suddenly felt the urge to sleep again. So I laid back down and snuggled up into Ty’s chest. He happily accepted me and put his arms around my tummy. This was the first time a man or alien had done that to me since Jake. It felt nice, and I think I could get used to it. I fell back asleep.

I woke up again at 8:30 am and noticed Ty’s arms were still around me, meaning he wasn’t awake either. I looked around but Cindy and Stef had left. I tried getting up but Ty’s arms held me firmly against his chest. I flicked his forehead and he woke easily. “Whatttt!” He shouts sleepily into my ear.

“We need to go do our stuff.” He reluctantly released me and I scrambled off the bed going into the bathroom to change into a cutoff shirt, waist high shorts and Doc Martens. I changed quickly and went out of the bathroom and downstairs where Stef was making breakfast and Ty was checking me out.

“What?” I asked him. Then Stef looked up at Ty and noticed and a scowl formed on his mouth, “What the fuck man? Why are you checking her out?”

Ty’s face became a deep red and he looked out if the window. “ Um, I’m sorry, you just look so hot. I can’t help it, I’m a guy.”

“Yeah we get it.” I said and blushed. He looked back over at me with a deeper shade of red and I felt the heat creep up my neck and go onto my cheeks. I broke the gaze and continued to eat my breakfast. I finished and grabbed my messenger bag and went to meet my friend, Cindy at the pavillion downtown. I drove the full hour to downtown and parked near, as it was early almost no one was here. I kept feeling very hot though as if I had a fever but I ignored it. I walked up the pavillion steps and spotted Cindy sitting at a cafe. She was sipping a latte and reading the newspaper. I smiled to myself, this was the Cindy I knew and loved. I walked over and sat down across from her, ordering myself a latte.

“You’re late.” Cindy said in her bubble friendly voice. I couldn’t take her seriously and burst out laughing. She smirked and kept reading.

“Well look who woke on the wrong side of the bed. Why were you sleeping with Stef last night? Are you guys together? I’ve been waiting for this! OMG!! We could be, like sisters in law! OMG, the endless possibilities!”

This caught her attention and she looked up at me. “I’m not in any relationship with your goddamn step brother, although I really want to. I like him.”

“Well I’ll get his attention for you. You can count on me!” We paid and got up and started walking and looking in shops that were just opening. I felt the urge to look behind me and saw a man in a suit following us. Ten minutes later I had the same urge to look behind me and saw the same guy. My hatred and rage was building up inside me and I needed to release I walked right up to the man and raised my hands. I felt heat, I was so hot and tired. I looked at my hands, they were on fire.

I screamed and dropped my hands. The man and everyone else in the pavillion just stared at me in awe. Then the man roughly grabbed me by the collar and pulled me against him, “We are coming to the garage where you work to pick you up to take you somewhere for special people like you.” I started shaking and he dropped me. I literally grabbed Cindy and ran out of the Pavillion and away from that man and my weird abilities as fast as I could.

We drove home in silence and I dropped her off at her house because I did have to work in 30 minutes. I rushed upstairs into my room and quickly changed into overalls and a striped button down. I left for work quickly afterwards. When I got there I had five cars to do before the man came with his posse of people. I quickly got to work and fixed all the cars. I had grease on my face and hands and it helped release the stress I had. I was working on my last car and wiped my face with the back of my hand and it smeared what I had on there originally. Then I heard the man walk in. He went into Jason’s office, they argued a bit, but then he came into the main part of the building where I was working. “Well, we’re here to take you now, come on, don’t waste time, you’ll regret it with your life.” He sounded serious so I stopped and got up from under the car. I stood and got my bag then went and hugged Jason goodbye. I left with the men in their sleek black limousine.
