BE WARNED, GENTLE READER. HERE THERE BE SPOILERS.
Do not keep reading unless you have already read the last chapter!
The seven part epilogue is on the next page. ;)
Was the ending planned?
— Yes, the ending was always planned. The cliffhanger on Chapter 26 | Don't You Forget About Me was the inciting incident that prompted this whole story. Does anyone else do that? Plot a book around the very last scene?
Did Reed kill Mayuri?
— *zips lips* My lips are sealed. I'll leave her fate up to the readers for now (the epilogue will hold all the answers you seek). What do you think happened? I welcome all theories you wish to share!
Why was Mayuri an American-Indian?
— It sucks I have to say this at all, but I've read a few comments from people who have said they're going to imagine Mayuri as white. Which...um? Her ethnicity is a factor in how she approaches her problems. I don't remember why I was thinking this, but it occurred to me that the word "Tamilian" could be mistaken for "Brazilian". The story is based in the USA's geographic Midwest, which arguably isn't the most cosmopolitan place in the world. Most Americans probably haven't heard the word "Tamilian" so Emily's ignorance on the first day of class is understandable. Also, Mayuri does come from a very affectionate and warm family. She is sheltered and has a strong value system (which we see tarnished as the story evolves). She's used to being different, which is even more painfully obvious in such a small town, and her feelings of alienation and need for belonging cause her to make some poor decisions.
Are you an Indian?
— I'm American. The author =/= their character. If I wrote about mermaids, would you ask me if I was a mermaid? I mean, that'd be a crazy cool compliment, but... xD
What will happen to Matt?
— Oh gosh, that poor kid will be scarred for life *laughs*. No, really, I think he'll go on to do great things in college and have a really good life. He cared about Mayuri but he won't let this tragedy define who he is going forward. He's always been a little wary of people, and I think maybe he'll be a bit more socially withdrawn, but he will cope and he will move on. One day, I hope he will remember only the good and not the bad.
Will we ever see Dominika and Fenris again?
— Yes. In the epilogue.
Will there be a sequel?
— Never say never! I am tossing around a few ideas but nothing concrete yet. I've had a really fun time with this story—it found so many ways to surprise me!—and I'm not ready to shut the door on Mayuri & Co. just yet. But I also want to work on some of my other ideas, so for now I'll be busy with my existing stories and some other projects! Check out MALICE GIRLS (a YA boarding school revenge story), or simply check out my page for more stories!
Any other questions? Leave them below and I'll get back to you :)
