"I hate you,"
She says it in such a tone that I almost miss the meaning.
We're in her tree house, and she's fixing the 'door'. This place is any 8-year-old's dream, so I guess it should be mine too. But all I can think about is how many insects must be on this log I'm sitting on.
Ava's waiting for an answer, I can tell. I hate her too. I hate everything about her. And she knows I do.
We've had this conversation before and will do again later. But it won't change anything. We're family now, might as well get used to it.
"I hate you too,"
She seems satisfied with that answer.
