Beautiful, brown eyes shot open, an all too familiar burning located on her right shoulder blade. Her body quivered in fear, face pressed against the soft pillow. Nearly the same nightmare has been happening every night for the past several weeks. It terrified her every single time. The voice was progressively getting louder, like the being that was speaking was growing stronger...
"Andrea! Come on! Your going to be late!"
Her mom, the crazy women that was raising her. She was a single parent, her father having left before she was even born. She hasn't yet told her about her nightmares. But it wasn't like she was in any real danger so it didn't matter anyways.
Disheveled, she slowly detached herself from the soft, warmth that was her bed and into the world around her. A yawn formed, a single hand running through ridiculously straight dark blonde, forcing it back. A grumble escaped from her mouth as she looked back at her bed. She was just about to lay down again when there was another yell from her mother.
She groaned," fine! I'll get up!" She pulled herself up to her feet, preparing for the day. Just before she pulled on her shirt, she glanced back at her shoulder blade, at the barely visible, strange birthmark located there. After every dream it would be burning, an ache that was too constant. It was strange, to say the least about it.
Finally ready, she stepped out of her room and walked down the tile hall, squinting at the light coming in from the windows. Waiting with her breakfast was her mom. She was on the shorter end of the spectrum, with wild, brown curly hair. A stark difference from her daughter. But the same brown eyes that were on Andrea as were on her mother.
"Hi Andie, how did you sleep? You ready for school?", her mom asked her as she did every morning.
A shrug was part of Andrea's answer, as well as a her regular answer," good, and as ready as I can be for school. You can never be completely ready for it." The morning continued much the same way, not much difference from the normal routine.
However, Andrea sensed that something was desperately wrong. Her mom was acting strange, nervous and jumpy. As if she knew that something bad was waiting right around the corner for her, something ready to strike.
When she was about to leave, her mom paused then softly took her daughters hand. Her words came softly, a worried tone in her voice," if something bad happens, don't come back here."
Andrea's face just radiated confusion. What would be so bad that I couldn't come back here? But before she could ask, she got a kiss on the cheek and a gentle nudge out the door.
"Have a good day!" Was the last words she heard, already walking away to walk to school. The following part was not heard as her mother watched her daughter walk away from the office window.
"Stay safe..."
