Reign: Prologue

"Look at you, you are nothing. Don't you understand that? Don't you understand that's how everyone perceives you?" she said to me. Her posture was upright, her eyebrows furrowed. She was trying to intimidate me, I could tell, but I was unaffected.
"I'm nothing? Do you honestly believe that?" I asked her taking a step closer, forcing my hands to stay at my side before my emotions took over me.
"Look at your clothing, Harry, and look at mine. You are a scum. You are from the streets, and you will always belong on the streets. What my daughter sees in you I will never understand." she said, huffing, and putting her hands on her hips.
I scoffed and looked at her in disgust.
"That's because she has something that you don't have: a heart. Your heart is ice cold, with walls built so high around it, it would take an army far larger than your own to break through, and even that would only leave a dent in your walls. Your daughter is the opposite of you. What she saw in me was compassion, and love, the love I have for her. She's lacked it all her life because you obviously could not give a damn about her --"
"Don't you dare! You have no right to tell me that I don't care about my daughter!" she yelled, her face turning a crimson color, as her anger became even more evident.
I stared at her in disbelief before letting out a laugh that held no humor. "I have no right? Look at yourself! Your daughter has been abducted, and you are just standing here, pacing around your throne room, not doing a thing! You could send your forces after her but you choose not to. Why?" I asked her.
"If you love her so much, why are you here? Why are you not going after her?" she challenged.
"Because I need your help. I can't take over a castle on my own." I told her. I hated the defeated tone in my voice, but I knew it was the dreaded truth. I was only one person versus a whole army.
"Well then I presume that's a loss for yourself. I am not going to send my highly trained soldiers after someone who was going to ruin the family line anyways!" she shrieked.
So that was it. That was why she was not even attempting to save her own daughter.
"So that's what this is about." I murmured.
"Yes! If she marries you, it will all be ruined. You are not of royal blood. You would ruin the royal line and all its future succesors. Princesses, queens, princes, kings... you never hear of them marrying peasants for a reason! Don't think you are so special, Harry. My daughter may love you now, but one day she'll come to her senses, I have trust in that." she told me.
I looked at her, and shook my head. She was hopeless. All she cared about was money and power. She had no motherly love for her daughter. She only saw her as her successor. Someone to carry over her father's name. She saw me as the obstacle.
"You... you are lost. You are past mending. Your heart is frozen solid and heaven so help you that one day it may thaw. But I can see that is not happening anytime soon. The world would be put through hell and back before that process even begins." I told her, my voice lowered but strong. She just stared at me, offended that I could speak such harsh words to a queen.
I lightly touched the grip of my sword, before turning around and walking towards the door.
"You're going to need a gun, and a good supply of ammunition as well. Swords are becoming outdated." she told me, as I continued walking towards the exit.
"I'll stop by the supply room on my way out." I replied stiffly.
"I wish you good luck, Harold." she told me, but I could hear the insincerity laced in her voice.
I scoffed as I finally reached the doorway.
"Like hell you do."

A/N:
Hey guys, so new story. I'm really excited about this one actually so I hope you like it. This was just the prologue, it takes place further in the story. I'll post the first chapters soon.

P.S. This doesn't take place in modern times, it takes place in the 1800s. I thought it had fit best with the whole royalty plotline.

Vote, comment, follow, do whatever. Thank you for reading, means a lot! :)
