A/N: Here is what y'all have been waiting for. First is a poem written in Maya's scattered thoughts.

 The day was a blur

Reality fading in and out

Fuzzy like the edges of TV static
Memories resurfacing here and there
As time seemingly doesn't exist
Just a state of confusion.
Remembering lying on the floor sick
Footsteps approaching
Gentle arms picking her up
In a warm embrace
Then blank like an interrupted thought
Gone. Just like that.

The muffled edges become sharper
Sitting in history deep in thought
Trying to sift through a foggy haze of memories until a full collision
The first clear thought
the rest of the sick day appeared, no longer fuzzy on the edges but clear as dew after a morning rain

"love you" the voice echoed softly as a flutter of a butterflies wings
Fading to black the memory ended.

_________

She had managed to sort through her thoughts her head still stuffy like the morning of getting her tonsils out the drugs slowly wearing off. The day seemed to fly by and the next thing she knew she found herself taking a seat re-evaluating everything.

Seemingly Riley had given her a good amount of space, Mayas assumed was Recovery-from-the-cold-space...

But then She remembered Riley's soft voice saying I love you. Immediately she felt ecstatic. Hope could treat her like it did her mom and Shawn... But...Maybe... Riley meant that platonic. Immediately Maya felt her hopes deflate like someone popping a balloon. Of course, Riley meant that platonic.

The bell suddenly rang bringing Maya out of her thoughts as a debate between Riley and Farkle began.

Throughout the debate Maya was sort of paying attention, watching Riley, smiling at the girls naivety when suddenly Mr. Matthews spoke

"How often do we get so lost in what we think, that we refuse to listen to what the other side has to say, huh? You guys know why we debate in history class? History teaches us that most wars start because we don't listen to the other point of view."

Immediately her head snapped up slightly. Wait, so Riley was avoiding her? Wait- and suddenly Riley interrupted voicing Maya's thoughts.
"I'm not trying to start a war. " Then the brunette continued confusing Maya even more
"I just think it's okay to feel strongly about what you believe in."

At that point, Maya zoned out for a little trying to clear her head quickly. She didn't need to be over thinking everything.

She focused back on the lesson and When Mr. Matthews announced it she glared at him. Great. This was going to be added to the list of things-she-didnt-really-wanna-find-out. After the classroom cleared She sighs softly and glances at the printer. Well, I guess I am going to have to put my feelings aside for now again she quietly thought, grabbing the printer and walking out. "I don't know man."

....

Throughout the day Maya felt as if everything were in code and she was desperately trying to decode it. Every look Riley gave her. She was acting so normal. Time to see if Riley could understand her code...

"Mine's Stabby McGee. We should get 'em together. "

But of course, Hee-Haw had to interrupt the moment. Of course he did. She internally sighed. It seemed like the world didn't want her to have the truth.

"You opened the door, Riles." The door to my heart. She added in her mind.

.....

After the end of the day, Maya was fed up. She solved the sassy halter top issue now she just wanted an answer. Hand in hand she walked in the cafe with Riley, after giving Louie two shoes the money. Now was her chance. As she got them both smoothies she turned to Riley. "Riles."

"Yeah Maya?"

"Do you remember how I was sick?"

"..yeah, you were so sick you were nearly delirious Maya."

Maya chuckled enough.

"but not delirious enough." she muttered under her breath gazing intensely at her smoothie.

"What?"

Maya glanced up.

"Right before I fell asleep again... I um, heard you say something." At this, the brunette smirked at the blonde.

"And I could've sworn I heard you say something too.. like a confession."

Maya rolled her eyes at Riley. "Sassy Halter-top must've left a little of her sass behind."

This time it was Riley who chuckled. "yeah, just a little though. Anyw-" Maya quickly interrupted,

"Y'know I meant what I said earlier." At this, the brunette tilted her head slightly. "Wait, what?"

Maya bit her lip and anxiously looked at Riley.

"That we should get Stabby McGee and Sassy Halter top together."

There was a moment of silence.

well, here goes everything. Guess I better move to South Dakota and change my name to crushes-on-best-friends. Maya thought to herself panicking at Riley's silence.

"Well, it depends on if Stabby McGee truly loves Sassy Halter top. "

At this Maya's head flung up as she carefully examined Riley's face, before getting serious.

"You know it's true Riles. I do love you. Have for a while."

Riley smiled sweetly before leaning in ever so slightly, so their foreheads were touching.

"Well good, because I Maya have loved you for a long time too."

With that, they kissed.

Mayas read and heard a lot about first kisses. But it's actually better that any fairy tale could describe. Because this was real. It was more than fireworks and butterflies. It was butterfly fireworks with a drizzle of happiness. It was like she wasn't on the moon, but she was Pluto, becoming a planet again.

It was one of the most extraordinary moments  Maya felt.
