Road Trip
It was a long journey, but Clarice and Hannibal decided between themselves it would be better to drive than to take a plane, to: 'save money'.
The lines on the road started to merge into one as Clarice's heavy eyelids began to falter, the soft hum of the engine lulling her into a sleep. Her head soon rolled to the side and hit the window, and she was out like a light, a small smile on her face as Hannibal rested his hand on her thigh.
It wasn't late in the day, around 3pm, but Clarice didn't sleep very well last night in the hotel. Firstly, she complained that it was 'too hot' and that Hannibal should 'put the AC on', but then when he did it was 'too cold' and he should 'just give the controller to her'. Then, she decided she was thirsty, but didn't want to get a glass of water from the bathroom tap because 'it's not the same as bottled water' and 'its just easier to go down to the lobby and use the vending machine' - but then she didn't want to go downstairs because she only had her dressing gown on and she would look 'too exposed' - which in a way was true, and Hannibal didn't want other men gawking like hankering hounds over /his/ Clarice.
Lecter's stomach let out a loud growl, and he frowned. He knew the two of them should've had breakfast at the hotel.. Letting go of Clarice's thigh and blindly reaching into the backseat, his hand came across a bag of hot chips, and he pulled them into the front, using his teeth to open them. Within 10 minutes, the family sized bag of chips was gone, and a contented looking Hannibal took his final sip of water before putting both hands back on the steering wheel, just as Clarice decided to wake up.
"Good morning, Clarice" Hannibal teased, smiling over at Clarice. "Hm?" She hummed sleepily, lifting her head off of her hands, which had created a makeshift pillow. "Feeling rejuvenated now?" He laughed a little, taking one of her hands in his own. "Y-yes I guess so, Hannibal... Why can I smell chips?" Starling said, suddenly feeling more awake as the smell wafted around her nostrils. "I had some, I was hungry.. seeing as you refused to eat breakfast.." Hannibal grumbled, turning his attention back to the road."Hannibal, I told you that bag of chips was mine- you- you said you didn't want any!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands in front of her. Clarice was rather looking forward to them, after all.. "I was hungry!" Hannibal retorted, throwing Starling an apologetic look. "I cant believe you, Lecter" She growled, turning her gaze to the window, watching the trees fly past, one by one. "There's still some Graham crackers in the back.." He mumbled, looking at Clarice again. "You opened them like 3 days ago, then decided you didn't like to snack on food so you left them on the backseat- and guess what? They're stale" She replied, frowning at him. Hannibal raised both of his hands in defence, before dropping his grip back on the steering wheel. "Now I'm stuck in a car, for another eight hours, no gas stations around, with some stale crackers and no water" Clarice huffed, kicking her feet up onto the dashboard. "Jerk.." She added, just under her breath.
[Ok, agreed, that wasn't the fluffiest of fanfictions, but this was kinda a spur of the moment write, so I hoped you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! ~Bee]
