For the first time, he opened his eyes.

He saw a man and a slightly younger man next to him.

He tilted his head slightly and looked at them. The young man gave a faint smile.

"You did it, Father," the young man said, "What will you name him?"

The older man looked down at him, "Lucifer."

The young man smiled fully, "Am I to take care of him, Father?"

"Of course, Michael. It takes much work for me to create you all, I have no time to raise another angel."

The man went off into the white abyss. The younger man, Michael, looked at Lucifer with interest. "Hello," he said. "I am Michael, your older brother. That man you just saw was our father, God. Here, let me assist you to your feet."

Michael extended his arms. Lucifer, as his name now was, took hold of them and was helped to his feet.

Around them was nothing but white. Far, far away, just a speck in the distance, was a mass of inky black.

Michael looked at where Lucifer's eyes looked at. "That there is The Darkness. She is the sister of our Father. She doesn't like us that well, so she stays far away." Michael gave a distasteful look at the black mass. He then looked down at the fledgling angel.

Archangel, as God would have reminded Michael. Even after centuries, Michael still forgot that he was not what his father would call an angel, but was classified as the first archangel.

        God's first son.

He looked at his new and first brother.

Centuries passed by, and Lucifer grew older. After five centuries, Lucifer had his first younger brother. This fledgling was younger looking than when Lucifer had been created, but Father reminded him and Michael that this new angel, Gabriel, was still an archangel.

Lucifer was given the job of raising the fledgling.

Michael gave Lucifer very little help, as their Father had asked the first archangel in help on creating the last of their kind.

It wasn't long before Raphael was created. Lucifer did his best to raise the two, just as Michael had with him.

Thousands of years passed by before Lucifer, his two brothers now fully grown, and a new angel race had been created and expanded to more than the billions.

Lucifer was approached by Gabriel one time. Gabriel had his usual smile on his face. "Father created a new one," he said. He held the new angel, "He's named him Castiel, and asked me to raise him."

Lucifer nodded his head, "Shield of God. He must be proud of Castiel to have named him so."

Gabriel looked away. "Morning star. Is there a reason for naming you so?" He did not want to admit that he had taken a look at the prophecies. He did not want to admit why Michael had distanced himself from Lucifer.

"I do not know, Gabriel. Is there a reason yours means Messenger of God? "

"Because that is who I am, Lucifer. You can't change that. You can't change who you are, who you become, who Father made you," Gabriel said. He didn't add on as he gave a farewell to his brother and moved along to show Castiel the stars.

Lucifer was to go see how Michael was, when the very angel flew passed him, sword in hand. Lucifer knew that when Michael, leader of the angelic army, had his sword, something was wrong.

Sure enough, after following Michael, Lucifer encountered someone he'd never met personally.

The Darkness was very destructive as she raged and argued with God. With a flick, an entity fell down to a barren planet God had named earth. The being was a black cloud and full of hate and rage and trickery.

After it, God sent a rune. Lucifer noticed it was a new symbol. It was a trap.

Sword held high, Michael tried, and failed, at harming The Darkness. She moved away, screaming that God had failed at creating a working universe. Lucifer felt rage, and drew his angel blade to assist Michael. The both of them, with God and then Raphael, The Darkness was stowed away.

        And light remained.

Lucifer looked around. Gabriel was looking down at the new beings on earth. He did not smile as the beings created more and more of themselves, spreading far too much. "They call themselves demons," he announced, holding the fledgling named Castiel.

God looked down and then opened his hand. "Lucifer, would you assist me in creating a being able to control those beings?"

Lucifer looked at the figure starting to form in his Father's palm. He could see hate, and love, and jealousy, and so many other emotions in the being. It took different forms and was unable to survive without consuming and drinking.

Lucifer declined. "It's broken — flawed — Father. It cannot and should not be finished." He looked at the incomplete being, his grace destroying it.

"Lucifer, they will be able to aid us!" God said.

Lucifer felt rage once more, "They are broken, Father! They will destroy the earth with their ways! Did you not wish to protect the life an beings you made and placed on earth, Father?"

"Enough!" Raphael ordered. "You are not to speak to our Father like that, Lucifer!"

"And you are not to speak to me as such, Raphael! I raised you and Gabriel!"

"And I raised you, Lucifer," Michael added, his loyalty to their Father showing. "Get out of sight. Not until you agree to cooperate!"

Lucifer growled, "No! You'll ruin the earth with them!" His angel blade was drawn and he went to attack God.

And Hell was created out of their brawl — Hell broke loose.

The fighting lasted years. Gabriel fled the fight, still being in charge of his newest brother, Castiel. He heard the agonizing sound of his brothers and sisters dying at the hands of Lucifer.

He was there the day Michael and God finally ended the war. Sword drawn, Michael pierced Lucifer and tossed him out of Heaven, down to the new home of the demons, and further down to the depths of it. God closed the Cage, and created four keys.

The first, he gave to a new deity named Death. The second was later given to Famine, who was born after Michael helped God create the race known as Humans. The third was given to a being known as War. And the fourth, Gabriel never saw where it went. The prophecy he had read had come true. God's favorite star had fallen.

And then God disappeared. With his favorite son gone, he left Heaven and earth to rule themselves.
