6 years later

I stealthily made my way up the school’s stairs and darted to my locker. If I kept this pace, I could get my books and not bump  into anyone. First peeking to make sure they weren’t there, I bolt to my locker and grabbed the lock, unlocking it like a white person inside a horror movie. I was on the third spin when I heard them approaching. “Hijo de pink floyd…” I muttered in spanish as their steps came closer. I wasn’t quite sure what it meant but i think it was an alternative to cursing as i’ve seen the hispanic boy next to me in spanish use it many times when he gets a bad mark.

Like a gazelle, I snap my head towards them as it would in fear. By the time my clumsy fingers could get the lock undone, I was already royally fucked.

"Nerdy Girly! Whatcha up to? You're not trying to avoid us now are you?" The black haired boy on the left said wounded as he and the other two tried not to laugh. "Nerdy Girly, come on now, you’ll hurt our feelings.” The brunette boy on the right pretended to wipe a tear from his eye. I didn’t even get a chance to walk away when they surrounded me, blocking all exits.  “Hey girly, what’s the rush?” The one in the middle,  Alex English whispered as he pinned me against the  locker. I loo

ked down, my face & ears red from embarrassment. Oh sweet dancing gavin, why do you do this to me?

“Lilly, look at me,” Alex said seriously, I refused. He grabbed one of my long brown locks and I looked  up to see what he was doing.  He looked me  straight in the eye and smelled my hair. If I were any other girl in the school, I would probably of blushed harder because  I thought it was romantic and smooth of him to do right? Yeah no. I found it very uncomfortable, & when i’m uncomfortable I turn red. So that’s what i did. I became see through and all the blood flowing in my face became visible.

Alex broke into a fit a laughter soon followed by the other two. “Oh man, nerd girl  you know just how to crack me up.” Alex grinned and I inhaled sharply. It was his smile that started this whole stupid thing.

Back when I was in 7th grade the new year started and it had been about three months without Andy. I was an emotional train wreck and honestly didn’t really care about anything. I kept a straight face and never let it waiver. I always made sure my emotions were in check, the day he left being the last time I cried. No one spoke to me and vice versa. It wasn’t until a few months into the school that someone tried to speak with me, Alex. With his shaggy  blonde hair and toothy grin, he smiled at me and bubbly greeted me with a “ Hello weirdo!”  I blinked at him and then cried as his smile reminded me of Andys. Since that day him and his friends picked on me. He  hasn’t called me weirdo & refrains from smiling since then too.

Seeing how i was becoming upset, he wiped the smile off his face and stepped back, “ Um, yeah.” He stood there awkwardly for a second when he seemed to remember something. “Oh right. On my way here some girl gave me this. I don’t like sweets so you can have this.” he said as he handed me a hersheys. He patted my head and walked away as he talked to the other two about sports and such.

I looked at the chocolate in my palm and wondered if he was doing this on purpose.
