Nikki and Kate entered the ward room to find Swain sorting the medical kit. He didn't even realise that his CO and XO had entered. Kate cleared her throat and Swain looked up. "Swain what I'm about to ask cannot leave this room until I'm ready to announce it. Ok." Kate said sternly
"Of course Ma'am," the coxswain said.
" I believe that I may be pregnant but I don't want to tell Mike until I'm ready and I'm sure because I don't want to get his hopes up"
"Ok well here is a test and I will wait here with Nav until you return. And Kate, Mike will be stoked."
About 10 minutes later Kate reentered the Ward room with a beaming smile. She looked at Nikki and said "it's official". But how do I tell Mike? The thought repeated in her mind over and over as she went back to the bridge.
three hours later:
RO's POV
I know my CO better than most people on this ship. She looked after me when my father passed, she saved my job and my life so when she told me that Mike hmm I mean Commander Flynn would be calling on the Sat phone because she had important news to tell him naturally I assumed that she/we would be going back to port. Boy was I wrong.
It was about 1100 hours when Mike called, I called up to the bridge to let my CO know but she was not there. I called her cabin and she groggily answered "Hello" I replied with " Ma'am sorry to wake you I thought you were doing paper work, Commander Flynn is on the phone." I switched the connection to her cabin.
talking to Mike without realising now Kates POV
"I was RO I must have fallen asleep, put him through"
"Kate I'm already here" Mikes sexy little laugh rang through the phone.
"Oh Mike why does this always happen. Have you opened your emails yet" I said with a sigh.
"No baby why? Is there something you dont want me to see?" Mike replied cheekily.
"argh Michael Flynn you annoy me so much."
His quick response was "That must have been why you married me Mrs Flynn" He emphasized Flynn.
"Well it wasn't for your jokes" I laughed.
there was a few seconds of pause while we regained our composure.
"So what was so important that I had to call YOU about"
I took a deep breath and calmed my nerves, "Open your latest email from me and when you get to the bottom open the attachment and tell me when you do ok?"
It took him about 3 minutes to read the email, he is the slowest reader in the world.
"Ok I'm opening it now".
This is it, my chance, I figured how long it would take to open and as I heard him click the button to scroll down I blurted out "Mike I'm pregnant you're going to be a daddy".
I waited a few seconds for his response "Well?"
