When the tragedy struck and the world fell to despair, alumni of Hope's Peak academy formed the future foundation in order to undo the damage despair had wrought; among the first people recruited by Kyosuke Munakata were the class of 79, those who had been scouted to attend Hope's peak as future ultimate but who never got to take up their place due to the tragedy. When the future foundation leadership were decimated in a killing game designed to push Ryota Mitarai to brainwash the world into hope and Kyosuke resigned from the foundation it was this class who were forced to take up the leadership of the efforts to rebuild the world. Without the leadership of Junko or the remnants, despair was gradually purged from the world and the efforts of the foundation were bringing the world back to normalcy. However just as the world was on the brink of full recovery, the foundation leadership found that ultimate despair was not dead and were ready to plunge the world back into despair.
