Chapter 13

And I promised myself I wouldn't tell you this shit today

But, tomorrow's uncertainty promotes the urgency in this shit I'm a say

Perfection doesn't exist if it doesn't consume her

And the truth hurts that this world's mine, but the womb is hers

Ms. mother nature I pray that our daughters carry and favor your genes

And when you take off your jeans you get all the me that you need

That you allow me to work it 'til you know what your actual worth means

And for what it's worth, I hope a couple words could help you see...

Illest bitch alive

Illest Bitch-August Alsina ft. Wale

Before I could say anything, I heard," Well, well, well. Look what the cat drug in."

I rolled my eyes, turning around.

"Hello, to you too." Sarcasm intended.

"I'm surprised to see you here." My mom, says.

"Yeah, okay... Is there a problem?"

"Matter fact, it is. I'm so si--."

"Woah. What's going on in here?" A voice said, making me look up.

"What are you doing here?" I snapped.

"Demarie? Damn-"

"Shut the fuck up! What the hell are you doing here?" I turned to my mom."What is he doing here?"

She laughed. "He stay's here, duh."

"I can't believe you're still with him after what he did to me! Fuck this. Fuck you! I'm gone." I grabbed Layla turning to Zaria saying, "This is why I told you I didn't want to come.

My mother's boyfriend use to abuse me physically, mentally, and sexually, while my so-called mother did nothing at all. She told me it was my fault. When I turned 16, she chose 'that' over me and kicked me out.

After she did that, I really didn't have nowhere to go.

That's when I met Darrien...

One day after school when my mom kicked me out, Darrien saw me crying. He came up to me and was I okay. I started crying, harder.

He pulled me into his welcoming arms telling me that everything will be okay. For another reason after another, I felt comfortable talking to him. I poured out all my problems to him. He was mad that a mother would put her man before her child.

Afterwards, he took me down the street to his house. He lived by with his younger brother.

Everything was fine until he got me pregnant and left. Now I'm here.

Sometimes I don't know if I'm winning or losing.

"God, who is calling me at one in the morning?" I rolled over grabbing my phone, answering it.

"Hello? Do you realize it's one in the morning?!" I snapped at the person on the other line.

They chuckled. "Yo' my bad ma. I was just calling like you said to."

"And you couldn't do that, earlier?"

"I was at the studio." August says.

"So..."

"Come outside." He said, ignoring me.

"What?"

"Come outside." He hung up before I could say anything. I rolled my eyes.

First Naziya, now him.

Pulling on some sweats over my shorts, I slipped on my slides. I grabbed my phone and walked out the room.

Layla was sleep and wasn't waking up anytime soon, so I was okay.

I slid into the passenger seat of August car, shutting the door.

He started driving. "Where are you taking me?"

"Just sit back and ride." I groaned, turning up the radio.

I love the way you keep them heels on

Hair ain't yours but it's paid for and it's real long

Show them tattoos when you switch it up

With your J's on

And you got ass so fat that I can't help but Feel On

And you keep it real when it comes to having sex

Girl you don't ever flex

Long as I fuck you good

You ain't worried bout what's next

That's why I keep you here

You ain't like them other hoes

Cause you the fucking best

Just in case you didn't know

"Is that you?" I say.

He looked at me funny. "Yeah."

"You know, I didn't know who you were until Jay told me." I confess.

"Fasho'? I figured that out at the club that night." I nodded.

Fifteen minutes later, he pulled into a driveway of a three-story house. "Who house is this?"

"Yours." He cut off the car, getting out; walking towards the front door.

"Wait, what?" I ran after him and followed him in the house.

"It's yours." He dropped the keys in my pocket.

"August no. I can't take this. This is too much." I say.

"I'm not taking no for a answer." He shrugged.

"I can't believe you did this. Thank you, August." I cried.

"Mane, it's cool."

"Have you thought about what I said earlier?" August says.

We were sitting outside Bria's apartment building.

"I'm going to be real...I'm not really up for a relationship, right now. I feel we should be friends, at this moment." I say, honestly.

He nodded. "Ma, I understand."

"Thanks for understanding."

"And we homies, not friends." He says, making me giggle.

"Yeah, okay. Let me get back in there before the wake up and realize I'm gone." I open the door. "Oh, and thanks again." He shrugged.

"See you in the a.m." August says, when I get out the car.

"Fuck you mean? It's already two in the morning. You'll see me, later." I joke.

He chuckled. "Iight bet, shorty."
