Chapter 4

The smell of decay filled the room we were in. Victoria's body laid on the floor right next the Nathan, and his wife's body. They were surrounded by dried blood. It kinda made me nauseous just to look at them. Since Victoria died john has been keeping me close to him.Jade didn't like how close I was to her older brother. I felt like she like was somehow jealous of me. The next door opened too the room It was brightly lit, unlike the others. John helped me up from the ground and held me close to him. When we went inside the room a loaf of bread and 17 glasses of water where in the middle of the room. John walked over with me. He let go of my waist and bent down to pick up the not that was with the water, and bread. The letter read

Eat up you'll need your strength.

But what it didn't say was One of you will die. I pick up a glass and a slice of bread I inspected the bread and saw nothing unfamiliar. I dipped my finger in the glass of water. I was glad I worn my changing color nail polish. If my nail polish changed color it meant it as tempered with.my nail polish didnt chnange. I was relieved. I did the same thing to Jade's and John's glass to but Jade didn't seem to happy. We all drank and ate bread but when we finished something felt off. Karen started acting weird. Karen was one of the few who greeted me in the beginning, and I was afraid that she would die to.

It was 3 hours in and Karen was in the corner huddled up. It was time to sleep so i didn't seem unnatural to me. John and I when huddled close together in the brightly lit room while everyone was scattered around the room. I wondered if this really was someone's basement and that they were just playing a really sick game of some sort. I gave my jacket to John and sat in between his legs that's how it's been since Victoria died. John covered us with the jacket, and we sat like that till one of us was asleep, which was John this time. I couldn't sleep because I was worried about Karen. I wanted to go over to her, but then I would wake up John, and he would stay up with me till i was asleep. I looked across the room to see Karen fast asleep in the corner. She was mumbling, and her face looked like she was having a nightmare. I thought it was probably of what we have been these these past days. We've seen death in a couple ways, and that could of made us go insane. I felt John move his leg. I possibly woke him up. I turned around to see him with his eyes wide open and looking straight me.

"you need to sleep." he said sternly, but quiet enough so he wouldn't disturb anyone. I nodded, and fell asleep.

It's been about three days and Karen has gotten a really sick, and keeps mumbling everyone's worried about her, but in some ways people are more worried that they might get sick themselves. Every night I sleep with Karen making sure she wouldn't get cold, but each night the nightmare would get worse to where sh e would start punching and kicking. She's been hallucinating, and saying random things. I'm worried that she'll become hostile. I was holding Karen up so she could drink her water, but she wouldn't drink it . We've been getting food and water everyday now. It was weird because Karen was the only one that was sick.

" What's wrong?" I asked she didn't respond. She stared at the wall across from us. Several of the guys were playing around with a coin one of them found in their pocket. The rest were talking about plans how to get out of this place, but small few decided to give up, and let fate decide. Karen looked up at me.

" You ready to drink?" I asked her she nodded i poured the water into her mouth, and she swallowed. Jade sat right next to me and we traded places. Jade, and I have been changing places every day. Today was her day to take care of Karen.

I run to John, overhearing the horror that was within Karen's laugh. Jade began to whimper, and I wanted to run and help her, but John was holding me back. Karen screams with laughter, shouting louder, slamming her fingernails against her pasty skin. Jade cries, yelling "STOP KAREN, PLEASE STOP" I can only watch, hearing John breath heavy behind me.

Jade turned quickly, allowing her palm to unfold and slap Karen right across her face. The room was silent for that moment. Karen kept laughing horrifying , and grabbed Jade's neck. Karen started strangling Jade. Jade was trying to pry Karen's hands off her neck.I kept trying to get lose from John's grip, but he wouldn't let go.

"LET GO, LET GO JADE NEEDS ME" I yelled. He turned me around around so i was facing him, but I averted my eyes, so I was still looking at Jade, and the horrifying scene Karen was showing.Everyone in the room just watched as Karen strangled Jade. Even her own brother didn't help. I kicked John in the shin , and he let go of me, and I slapped him as hard as I could. Jades face was really red. I ran as fast as I could to Jade, and tried to pull Karen off of her. When I got Karen off of her, she turned to me, and started to strangle me. When looked at her face she didn't look like she use to. She looked more sinister. Jade punched Karen, and started to strangle her, but all it was doing was making her grip tighter on me. I started to see black.

Was this how I was going to end? I closed my eyes,and hoped that the darkness was going to embrace me.

"Li---" that was the last thing I heard before I fell to the cold hard floor.

I felt cold droplets on my face. I opened my eyes to have the bright light burn my eyes. I heard a faint gasp, and then someone placed the jacket over my head.

"Jade?" I reached out from the jacket to find her hand, but before i could she grabbed my hand, and held it tightly..

"Your an idiot you know. It's been a hour since you passed out."

" what happened to karen?" I asked

"She died" I couldn't see Jade as a murder. She may look it, but she actually cared about people.

" So does this mean we're even?"

"Yeah I guess it does."

I didn't die.I thought. I felt Jade squeeze my hand tighter. I didn't pull away, I didn't want her to feel like i'm going to leave her like her brother did when it came to protecting me or his sister.
