i stand up the second i see her. i walk at a fast pace towards her. when i finally get to her, i grab her shoulders gently, "where were you," i whisper, my eyes wide from worry. she didnt look hurt and she seemed just fine, she was even smiling.
she swats my hands away from her shoulders, and starts walking to where i was just sitting, gesturing for me to follow her. i sigh. she ignored my question.
"i was worried about you," i breathe out, raking my hands through my long mess of brown hair.
she laughs, "im fine, wyatt, trust me."
honestly, i was kind of getting a bit annoyed with her acting like this was all okay.
when her phone first ringed she looked like somebody had just stabbed her in the gut. the second time? her voice was shaky, and she was obviously scared. yet she won't tell me what happened. i look up at her and quirk an eyebrow, "then who called you?" there's a bit of tone in my voice, but she doesn't seem to notice.
"it was just my dad," she seethes.
"and why were you so afraid?"
"what's with all the questions," she yells, and everybody quickly glances over, that's a lot of people.
i take a deep breath, "something just didnt seem right, max. and you know something is wrong. youre dodging everything im throwing at you, every question i give." i say gently, compared to the loud chatter coming from the cafe. it was kinda getting stuffy in here.
she sighs, "if im not telling you, there's a reason for it. ill tell you, just not now."
i nod, "that's all you had to say."
she smiles at me.
unexpectedly, she grabs my hand and before i know what's going on, were running out the door.
"where are we going," i ask, looking down at our hands. she hasn't let go.
"somewhere quiet, and not crowded."
"yeah it was getting pretty ridiculous in there." i tsk, pointing back at the cafe with my free hand.
she nods, and looks down at our hands. she let's go, realization lighting up her face.
"sorry," she laughed nervously.
but it didnt bother me.
