"As most of you may know, there have been many disappearances lately concerning high school children. Seeing that many of the children enrolled here have disappeared, we will be taking great pains to ensure the safety of our students." A murmur rippled through the student body crammed on the rickety, unstable bleachers.
The principal raised his voice. "But-" The talking subsided- "But, we need to make sure you will all stay safe. Therefore, the students that are granted the privilege to leave school grounds during lunch will be unable to do so." The talking grew so loud that I couldn't even hear the principal shouting.
"Whoa." My friend, Dawn, turned to face me. "Good thing we're freshmen."
"Yeah," My other friend, Sara, pitched in. "I would be so mad."
The principal finally regained control over us and continued his speech. "Any after-school clubs will be disbanded until further notice-" He raised his hand when the shouting started up again. "-and any children walking on school grounds after hours will suffer severe punishment. That is all, thank you for your time." Kids actually began to get out of their seats to confront the principal, but he was already gone. Teachers were shouting over the noise, trying to regain control of us, but we were all mad. I was always a relatively calm person, but even I was struggling to keep my composure.
"No after school clubs?" Dawn shouted over the noise. "That's bull!" A cheer promptly rose up from the crowd. I blushed and grabbed Dawn's arm.
"Only four people have disappeared!" She shook my grip from her arm. "It doesn't cal for disbanding all clubs!" The crowd cheered even louder. I was mortified when she stood on one of the seats.
"Dawn!" I hissed. "Dawn, get down!" But it was useless. She was going to start a full scale riot, whether I liked it or not.
I looked for face in the crowd and found it. I glared and cursed under my breath. I turned to Sara, saying, "Watch Dawn, will you?" Sara oped her mouth to reply, but I was already gone.
"You!" I walked up to a dark haired boy named Stephen. "You did this!" I jabbed my finger in his chest.
"Whoa there, Mo," He said. "I have company." He gestured to his circle of cronies.
"Look here, all of you," I glared at all of them. "I don't know why you did this, but I know you did."
His face reflected mock surprise. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Please, I can smell you from a mile away."
"What's that supposed to mean?" One of his friends, Jacob, interrupted.
"Oh, you don't know?" I grinned at all of them. I'm sure I looked like a maniac. "You seriously don't know?"
"Spit it out, Mo."
"You all kidnapped the people."
They laughed. They actually laughed.
"Why do you think we would do that?" Stephen laughed, and I saw a glint of red in his eyes. That confirmed it.
"Because you're all Gurrs." The response was immediate. They all took a step back and looked at one another, confused and scared.
"Oh, stop it," I waved at them. "I'm not a hunter."
Stephen was the first to regain his composure. "You mean your a Verbos? Sweet, oblivious, innocent Mo Is Verbos?" He shook his. "Why didn't I ever know?"
"Because I'm smarter than all of you," I took a strep towards them. "And I like the element of surprise."
"So what are you then? A stupid human lover like a Hubacha? Or those vegetarian Kulees?"
This part was my favorite. "No," I looked him right in the eye until our faces were only inches apart. I quickly morphed just enough so that my fangs just barely poked out of my lips, and that my eyes turned completely yellow. "I'm a Bexen."
They boys actually stumbled in their haste to get away from me. "A Bexen?"
"Sh-"
"How?"
"What the-"
"And you all know what Bexen are." I smiled at them. "We're at the top of the food chain. We know everything. And if we don't-" I cocked my head. "Well, that doesn't happen."
Ugh, I always hated having to act like a scheming little bi-
"How?" Stephen whispered. "Why didn't we know."
"Us Bexen have many secrets the rest of the Verbos don't know about." i stopped smiling and glared at them. I swear I even saw Jacob trembling. "Now tell me-" I tried to make my eyes smolder. "Did you kidnap any of the people?"
"No." Stephen raised his head. "We might be Gurrs, but we stopped things like that long ago."
"Well, thanks for your time." I gave them a small wave. "Ta-ta." i breezed past, leaving them standing there, completely shocked and stricken.
