Chaper 5

I sat on the bus with Kyle, who was fiddling with something in his bag.

"Hey, Kyle?"

"What's up, dude?"

"What have you heard about those disappearences?"

Kyle looked striken as he turned to face me. "That's some pretty freaky stuff, dude. We don't like to talk about it. "

"How is it freaky?"

"Well, this kidnapper? He kidnapped a freshman girl on Friday, four weeks ago. Then he kidnapped a sophmore guy on Friday, only it was three weeks ago. And then two weeks ago, on Friday, he kidnapped a junior girl. Last Friday he kidnapped a dude who was a Senior."

"Whoa."

Kyle nodded and went back to rummaging in his bag. I sat back and sighed.

I had asked a kid in my class earlier about Ty. He looked the same as Mo, but only hairier. Apparently the poor guy had to shave twice everyday... And he still had stubble.

He was athletic and a jock, and really, well, let's just say not very smart.

I jumped off the bus at my bus stop, eager to go home and just relax. No more homework, stress, just sleep.

I started the walk down the long dirt road. Ditches lined the road, swallowed by overgrown woods. The eerie sound of a slow, sorrowful howl traveled through the chilly breeze. I looked up the bipolar skies, which at the moment were dark, dreary, and lacking the sunlight that I seriously wanted to see.

It was like some bad horror out of a student film. And this is always the part where the guy gets eaten or jumped or dies or-

Stop, Sam, I chided myself. Stop getting so scared over some woods and the sky!

But despite my wonderful pep talk, I started running closer to my house. I could see my house getting closer, closer, closer-

Oohmp!

I fell flat on my face, the mixture of dirt and asphalt scraping the skin off my knees and face.

Great, I thought, just great.

My "new life," as my mom said, wasn't off to such a great start.
