Should students and teachers text and be "friends" on social media?
Personally, I believe that students and teachers should be able to communicate outside of school. As someone who has been friends with teachers outside of the classroom, friendships outside of the class can be beneficial. I became friends with my preschool teacher once I got into middle school. She became a big part of mine and my sister's life.
My aunt, who is a teacher, has seen the same eight kids grow up, from the time they were seven to seventeen. Over the years, she's become friends with the families and has even been invited to family events. The kids love her and look at her as a friend, as someone they can trust. Students who have graduated are friends with her on Facebook and talk to her regularly. And my aunt doesn't see a problem with being friends with students, especially if you've become a big part of their life.
Although there are student-teacher friendships that become more than just "friendships", that shouldn't tarnish the reputation of student-teacher friendships. Students and teachers know their boundaries.
