Upon such an unsteady ground,
I march toward that which I knew to be you.
Unsettled, I stop and look around.
There is a silver lining in the sky,
But no light to shine through.
I have climbed, mound after mound,
To see that which is no longer you;
But I suppose it will have to do.
The stone, cold to my touch,
Bears the letters, the name,
And I know it has been found.
That name which wakes upon my lips
In the dead of night.
My forehead damp with perspiration,
I'm relieved of such a fright.
But after every wake, the truth once again sinks in:
It was not a nightmare at all, but a memory.
Your eyes, not sparkling, but empty,
Laughter barely disappeared,
And a damning silky veil.
Every night upon my waking,
Realization hits again and again.
I fall upon damp grass and let my fists pound.
Monthly howls and animalistic rage
I've been forced to bear alone—
Nay, not forced.
There is but one left willing to endure,
But she is not the same.
My heart rejects such tender love.
I could say I do not know the reasoning,
But I suppose I truly do.
It is the same, the reason
I haunt an empty body underground this very instant.
My mind and body are forced,
Told to come,
Because they know that one thing:
My heart beats only for you.
