he woke up to flashing lights, loud voices and a strong 'hospital' smell. he scrunched up his nose and tried to lift his arm, only to be greeted by a horrific pang down his body.

"ah!" he groaned and bit his lip. "the hell happened? where am i? why does everything hurt?"

surprisingly, the fact that sean couldn't see anything wasn't what came to mind first.

he tried to lift his leg. even worse pain than before. he cried out and formed a fist, his nails digging into the soft skin. he felt his abdomen, realizing that moving probably wasn't the best. a large bandage was wrapped around his small frame. he muttered a confused 'what?' as he became more and more frightened, and more and more questions swirled in his mind.

a 'light bulb' seemed to go off in his head:

why couldn't he see?

his breathing became heavier and he lifted his arms quickly to feel his face. instantly, his arms ached, making him retreat as fast as possible. his mind raced. why can't i see, why can't i see, why can't i see?

he thought he would've exploded if someone hadn't walked in at the perfect moment.

"oh! he's awake!" a voice thick with a swedish accent echoed in the room. "hi, sean!" he giggled.

sean was very confused. awake? obviously he was, but why did he sound so relieved?

"what?" he croaked, his voice sore with sleep. "why..where...?"

"oh, damn it, i should've explained that first," the voice mumbled, scolding himself. "uh, sean, i'm felix. you're in the hospital," he started, sounding anxious, "you were...you've been in an accident."

fear flooded the irishman's body. it only made the situation worse that he felt so vulnerable. slowly, he reached a hand up to feel his face. he felt somewhat relieved that there was only a bandage on his face. however, something told him he shouldn't take it off, not yet.

"you've been out for the past few days. you were heavily sedated, for surgery and stuff." surgery? "h-how are you feeling?"

sean swallowed the lump in his throat. "i, im okay, i guess. but..." he wasn't sure if he was ready for the answer to his next question, "what happened?"

"well, um, you were...hit. by a car."

images flashed in his mind. the road, the frostbit trees around him, the car...the pain, the ringing in his head...

"your leg was twisted, you obviously kinda broke somethin'. the doctors said you fractured your tibia but, that's too much medical shit for me to comprehend." the voice, felix, giggled. the irishman tried to laugh unsuccessfully. "and your stomach kinda barfed. like, you got a really big cut down your belly, and some things were hanging out. gross, i know," he added quickly, seeing sean's frightened reaction, "but don't worry! you're fine, bud. just be careful, heh."

"felix, i know you seem really nice but, i'm really...scared right now." his voice faltered quietly. "can you just, take this stupid bandage off of my face so i can feel somewhat security?" he chuckled.

felix broke. "oh, sean...you didn't know?

"the accident left more than just some scars. sean, you're blind."
