Chapter 2

Ryan's POV

The sunlight forming into the sky forces my eyes to open up. I look over at Haley, who is sound asleep. She looks so peaceful. I get up from the mattress, and spread the rest of my jacket over Haley. Right now, I really need to be searching for food. But I really don't want to leave Haley all alone. The last time I did, she almost got snatched. I glance at her once again, to realize that she's wide awake.

" Ryan, I'm hungry". She whispers.

I wrap my jacket around her little body, and take her into my arms. " Don't worry, Haley bunny, I'll get you something to eat soon. She lays her head on my shoulder. " Okay."

Since the burger joint is closed on Sundays, I walk down to McDonald's, which is further down. In a matter of minutes, we make it there and walk inside. I put Haley down, and grab her hand.

I kneel down to Haley's level." You know the deal little sis! I taught you how to search. So let's get to it!"

Haley and I look on each table, searching for any scraps of food left. We were sure to not be suspicious and get caught. But today, it was easier for us to search, since no one really came in to eat. After about and hour of searching, Haley and I grab the food we find, and run out of McDonald's. As I'm running, I bump into a nearby trashcan, making the trash come out. I look onto the ground, and I spot something shiny. I pick it up and realize that it's.....a watch?

" What's that?", Haley asks.

" I walk over to her. Today is our lucky day Haley bunny!! We found a watch!! So it's easier for us to tell time. Haley smiles." Yay!!"

After going back into the alley and eating the leftover food we found, I pick up the watch again, and place it over my right wrist.

" Come on Haley bunny, let's head down to the gym and shower. With the money we used to own, I bought Haley and I a few outfits to wear. I couldn't afford any shoes. We grab the outfits that were changing into, and go to the gym. After we get dressed, I decided to give the watch a quick glance to check the time.

This is the weirdest watch that I've ever seen!! There's no place to set the time. The only thing you can do, is set the month, date, and year. This isn't the watch that I needed. So I decided to let Haley keep it. I give her the watch, and she plays with it until we make it back to the alley.

" Look at what I made the watch say!" Haley says.

I lay a hand on the watch, and read what it says. "May 7, 1988".

The next thing I know, the watch starts to flash rapidly. I hold on to Haley as tight as I can......what's going on?!
