My almost perfect selection

#2 that night

A few days later.....

"Go play with Jax ... oh and would you put him in bed?" Luna says. I don't understand -- she's the nanny, why do i have to do it? I'm thinking of protesting but I keep my anger at bay. I go up stairs, walk through the hall third door at the left.
I open it not to my surprise, my bother is playing with his building blocks. Jax looks a lot like my oldest sister with his brown hair and eyes. Jax is smart for his age. For example he is making a building even sixteen year olds scratch their heads at, and he's freaking 8! I laugh at this thought.

"Nova, you scared me"

"Sorry Jax. Come lets take a bath and put your PJs on. Then you can play longer..." before I can say another word he runs out of the room.

"Last one there is a rotten chicken."

"Jax, it's a rotten egg!" I hear him laugh.

"Well I don't care I win!"

"All hail for the campion JAX" he laughs even harder at this. I let the water run and get out of the bathroom. A few minutes later I come back to the bathroom with Jax' pj's. "Come on, Jax, get out of the bath, please?" "Noo, it's warm in here!" " If you get out now I'll ask mom if you can stay up to watch who gets nominated for the selection"

"Really, you can do that???"

"No promises, but I can ask."

"Okay" he gets out of the bath. I hold his towel and he jumps in my arms. I dry him off. I help him with his PJ's. We clean the bathroom and we go look for mom.

"Mom! Wait!"

"ohh hey sweetie" What is wrong with her. Since the letter had arrived she had been acting different. I put that thought away. "Jax and I were wondering if he can stay up to watch the broadcast?"

"Hmmm..."

"Well?" Jax said.

"Jax it's pretty late and..." Mom looked confused, "okay but not the whole thing. Only the names. nothing more nothing less. Understood?"

Jax just shakes his head. And ran off to his room. Mom looks at me opens her mouth to say something but closes it quickly and walks away. Strange.
I go up the stairs and hear laughter from Aleah's room. I know who it is. It's her girlfriend Sofie. Sofie is beautiful with her red hair, sea blue eyes and freckles. If you would see her walking down  the street, you would think she has a boyfriend. But oddly enough she's 'single' just like my sister.  I don't believe that. I know she's in a relationship with my sister.  Being gay is no longer taboo so I don't know why they keep it a secret. Mom and dad don't suspect a thing, at least  I think so.

We are all sitting on the couch or on the floor. Jax, Bea, father and I could convince mom that Jax could see the whole thing.

"Goooood evening, tonight is the night that everybody has been waiting for."
"Not everybody..." I hear Aleah say.
"Shhhh," mom says.
"Tonight we will find out who is chosen to have a chance to marry the Prince."
"Ohh I can't wait!"
"Moooom!"
"Let's start of by talking to the Prince. Hello, Prince Echo."
"Hello, Gage"
"This is the first Selection in 87 years. What do you think about the selection for your brother?"
"Well to be honest I'm nervous for him. All the drama that comes with it. I do not envy him at this moment." He laughs and looks warmly at the camera. At that moment I wondered if this was all a act or if what he said was real.
"I can believe that, know let's go to the Queen. My queen do you have any advice?"
"Well Gage I do. Be yourself. It's been a long time since the last selection but look at the 2 last winners, they were themselves. And just enjoy the experience." 
"That is great advice. Let's go to the man of the hour."
The camera goes to the Prince: you can just see him whispering something in Prince Echo ear. Price Echo laughs at it.
"Prince Caj what is your take on the selection and what are you looking for?"
"Well I'm looking for the love my parents have for each other."

At that moment the screen goes to the King and Queen who look lovingly into each other eyes. And the same though comes back 'is this all just a act'? Was this all staged?
"Yes I can see what you mean." He smiles and then says, "Well are you ready to know who is coming?"
"Yes I would love that." Prince Caj says
"Finally..."
"Ahhhhhh​ shhhh, Aleah"
I want to laugh but keep it in.
"Well here are the names"

The camera goes back to the Prince and the screen goes blue with in the corner the Prince so you can see his response.

"Stella Smith, 4"  She has black hair, witch makes her green eyes pop.
"Mirian Fisher 5" she has really plump lips that the only thing I can say about her. The rest of her is make up.
"Tamara Tank 2" I look at the Prince, he looks scared.  Why??
"Nova Steller 3" I was still wachting the prince's reaction: he looks shocked. Why? He whispers something in his brothers ear. Why? I hear a yell. Wait, wat that was me.

"But how? " WAW thanks for believing in me, Dad.
"Ahhh I knew it. Yes!"

"shhhh Aleah this is serious"

"What??! Yeah go nova!"

"Shut up Bea"

"why mom"

"Because she will disappoint the whole family!! She is and always will be a disgrace to this family" I just sit there and listen to all the hard words flying around. I didn't say a word and neither did Jax. He just looked at me and whispers: "I want to go to bed now. Ohh and I knew that you would make it." "thanks buddy," and I pick him up.
I get upstairs and want to tell him a story but when I look down I see him sleeping. I put him in his bed and go to my own room.
I sit there on my bed and put on my PJ's and think about everything that has happened.

My mom was nice.
She wanted to say something but didn't .
I got selected for the selection.
The Prince whispered something into his brothers ear about me.
I was going to be a disgrace in my mother's eyes and always have been.
I almost cry when I think about this. I crawl into my bed. The last thing I remember is the thought: 'he looked shocked.' Why?
