Another nightmare.
Amaury woke up to another nightmare, sweating profusely. His heart was pounding against his chest. His clammy palm reached out to his aching forehead. No matter how much he tried, he couldn't get away from his restless insomniac nights. If somehow Iris could get him to sleep, he would end up having nightmares.
His gaze drifted over to the watch that displayed 2 a.m. in the bold red letters, the only source of light in the pitch black room. He leaned and grabbed his cell phone, and without even a second thought, he called up Carrie.
She wasn't picking up the call. Perhaps, she was purposely avoiding him. Heck yes, she was. After what he had done, there was no way she could forgive him. All the thoughts raced through amaury's head as he watched the screen fading to black.
One last call and he'd go back to bed, he convinced himself. His fingers tapped around, waiting for someone to pick the call, and someone did.
Before he could utter a single word out of his dry throat, a hoarse voice shut him up. He couldn't speak anymore. His hands stood frozen. His worst nightmare had finally become true.
A tear slid down his cheek as the realization hit him.
She had finally moved on.
OLIVER'S POV-
“Alright. Family hug. Come on, my babies.”
My mother has this tradition of squishing us all together in the name of family hug every morning. She'd just tug me and dad in, sometimes Elias if he is awake by the time, stopping our breathe for the time being.
She gave me some of my medication and put the rest of the dose in my bag, leaving me with a peck.
“Why do you have butts on your chest?”
I chuckled, as I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder and started in the direction of a horrified Robin and my forever curious little brother Elias.
Robin watched him with an arched brow, ruffled his hair and faced me, “I'm still waiting for a normal encounter with your family.” She shook her head and dragged me out.
I silently munched on my vegan sandwich mom prepared for me while cursing the 'bad' company I am in.
She is not much of a fan of Robin, you see. She thinks, she does drugs for some weird reason. Well, mother's got reasons. Robin came to live with her aunt an year ago, nobody knows about her family or the place she used to live, nor her parents. With that shady attitude of hers, I cannot really blame ma.
If I was her, I'd probably claim her of being an alien of something.
“Have you had breakfast?” I asked her as I shrugged off tiny crunches off my hand, already knowing the answer.
She tried to dodge the question with a lame excuse of asking me how beautiful the sky was. Well, It was gloomy and dark greyish, thank you and then eventually landing up with the truth, “Woke up late, Couldn't go for a run, gotta skip because I have to compensate the calories. ”
Yes. I cringed too.
Without a word, I sighed and grasped her wrist, entering in the nearest place to eat, Xavier's.
“Okay. Oliver. Waffles and green tea together is a hella big no. They just don't go together.” Robin whined, pushing the plate in my direction.
“You used to eat French fries with nutella” I commented.
“That was so long ago. Gosh. I don't even eat fries anymore. It's all calories and shit that makes you a fat twat.”
“Twat? Really? Anyway, didn't your boyfriend cheat on you or something? Shouldn't you be wailing and eating tons of ice cream?”
“Dude. Crying is for the weak. Your girl, right here..” She thumped her chest over the brown leather jacket she wore, “Is all up with the sweet, sweet revenge.” A satanic smirk sparkling her face.
“Whatever you are planning, Count me out. Last time this satanic smirk landed us in dirty washrooms for a month. Harry wouldn't appreciate the damage to his beautiful clothes again. Oh and eat.”
“That was fun. Stupid Sandy deserved that for stealing your favourite set of staedlers.”
“Eat.” I signed heavily, just as she ignored me again when someone entered and her gaze shifted there. I turned to around to meet with Alec and his friends who just stepped in our side.
“Hey Savannah.” Robin waved cheerfully, jumping from her seat. Savannah, in turn just smirked and got busy with her cell phone. Seems like, Robin didn't notice. Good for her.
“Hi Robin.” A soft spoken voice came. I looked up to see Alec Baldwin.
“Uh..h..hi Alec.” Robin stammered. That was not going smooth at all.
“Hey Alec.” I chimed in, mostly because It was getting creepy with the continuous staring of Robin. Somehow I had to interrupt her. Fortunately, It worked as she got the hint.
He turned to me, “Oh Hey James.”
“Um Oli..”
“That looks delicious. Can I?” Alec smiled, pointing towards the untouched plate of waffles, and digging in with the nod of our heads. Robin made a few weird signs to made me understand that it was my cue to leave.
I fake coughed, “I think, I should leave. I need to do that psychology paper thingy. See ya both.” I turned around as I watched Robin finally eating some of the breakfast with a faint yell of, “See ya around , James” reaches my ears.
I didn't bother to correct him anymore. At least Robin was eating.
Upon reaching the school, I blended in with the hoard of students rushing in. Something was different. It felt like a thick tension looming around. Almost suffocating.
Fifteen minutes later, the announcements were made to the whole of senior class to gather up in Mendes Hall. I did sneak a look of Robin with Savannah, Alec and some of the other friends.
The principal, Dr. Thompson greeted us, eventually the noise of the room dying down with her speaking. A few barely audible gasps and scattered curses echoed throughout the hall as she announced the news.
The news of Cody Murray.
The news of Cody Murray overdosing and not being with us anymore.
It was safe to say, he wasn't that kinda guy but you never know what circumstances lead you in situations you cannot avoid. A lump was stuck in my throat. I don't really take bad news well.
My eyes met Robin's for a moment, and they screamed an unrecognisable emotion.
fear?
The even more frightening question was, why would that be?
