Chapter 3: Cool Winter

I shivered as a cold breeze brushed against my cheek.

It hasn’t snowed as of yet, but with the weather so cold, it was most likely going to happen sometime soon.

I looked up at the clouds; they were coloured grey covering every space, leaving no area for the sky to peep through.

I always wondered if the sky stayed in its natural blue colour when it was covered by the clouds like this.

If I poked my head through them, would the sky actually be a different colour, like black, or even something crazy like violet?

I walked into the locker bay and started to put in the code for my lock.

I looked to the right to see Stellar and her gang hanging around.

Stellar glanced at me, and then beckoned her girls to walk in the opposite direction to myself.

She had stopped bothering me ever since the fight, but even so, I still feel rather insecure around her.

When I told Ash about this, he just simply said that, ‘Things don’t just happen overnight. Nothing has really changed, but slowly as time passes by, we will muster enough energy to overcome the boundaries and the world around us will transform.’

I steered my head back to the locker as it clicked open.  I roughly placed my bag into it and unpacked my books in an orderly manner. Then I took out the books I needed for the next class.

As I took a seat for English class, a head suddenly popped up in front of me.

I paused in shock, staring at the head that had just appeared, attached to the body of a girl.

I had seen her in class before and always remembered her as the girl who could get away as looking like a primary school student, as she was extremely short and had a baby face with her large doe-like eyes, clear, soft skin and chubby cheeks. Having her hair in two pigtails high up on either side of her head didn’t really help, either.

“Hi,” she stated simply as she flashed a large smile with no teeth showing.

I paused for a split second and then replied, “Hey,” slightly uneasy as I hadn’t really spoken to anyone in class for the sake of socialising for a long time. I hoped that it didn’t come across badly, as my tone wasn’t really welcoming.

Obviously this wasn’t the case, or she didn’t seem to care as she smiled again, “Oh! So that’s what your voice sounds like! I’ve always wanted to know-“

She was then cut off by another girl in my class who hit her behind the head very lightly, “Don’t be rude, Lola!” she told her off.

Lola held the back of her head where she was hit with both of her hands, “That hurt! You didn’t have to hit me so hard, Marissa” she whined whilst looking back at her friend, “How was I being rude? I don’t understand!”

Marissa then looked at me, “Sorry, her level of maturity matches her looks,” and gave me a polite smile with her apology.

I held my hands up in defence “Don’t worry about it. I totally understand where she’s getting at,” I replied and was quite proud of the carefree tone I had used.

Marissa cocked her head to the side giving me a strange look; it wasn’t disgust, nor was it admiration either.  Before she could talk any further, the teacher walked in and apologised for her lateness, indicating to everyone to return to their seats and open their books.

To my surprise, Marissa and Lola moved and sat next to me.

I just continued to act normal as class began, then I saw a note being passed onto me from Marissa.
