"Goodbye mom!" Emma yelled before heading out to walk to school. She had just moved into this town 2 days ago and her mom was making her go to school today.

I could've helped unpack. Emma thought, convinced her mother just thought she was a nuisance. Ever since dad left she's been so shut off, and independent. Lost in her thoughts, and trying to navigate her way to school she didn't notice the girl with midnight black hair, and skin almost as white as snow walking next to her until she said something.

"Hello," The girl said with extreme confidence, almost like it had been rehearsed. "I'm Violet and I saw you walking alone and thought I'd say 'hi'."

"H-h-hello Violet, I'm Emma. Do you go to Filder High School?" Emma asked taking notice of Violet's skin.

"No. I don't think so. Maybe. I'm not really sure," Violet seemed like she was straining to remember, like reaching for something that wasn't there.

Emma laughed a little and asked her, "How do you not know if you go to school there? Are you new too?" As Emma asked her this Violet's whole body turned a shade of reddish, pink. I didn't know whole bodies could change color. Strange. Emma thought.

"Actually, I'll have you know, I am a demon, and I've been assigned to haunt you." Violet said as if it was a secret that only she knew and was telling a best friend.

"Um... What?" Emma said slightly scared, confused, and worried.

"I said, I'm a demon assigned to haunt you." Violet sighed with disappointment, like a kid who has to do chorus before hanging out with friends. Violet also started floating slightly in the air in front of Emma.

"How!? What!? What did I do to get haunted?" Emma had always been a good kid. She hadn't done any of the things half the kids her age have done. So when she found out she was being haunted by a demon she was a little bit more than shocked.

"Honestly I don't know I don't remember anything other than I was assigned to haunt you. And calm down you look almost as pale as I am." Violet jumped up and started floating above Emma's head. As Violet turned upside down a necklace in the shape of a cross fell out from under Violet's pink shirt. It looked almost identical to the one Emma was wearing, other than it was darker than Emma's. Unlike Emma's, which was a mocha color, Violet's was almost black.

"Get down from there before someone sees you!" Emma said glancing around to see if there was anyone nearby.

"Don't worry so much," Violet kicked through the air gracefully swimming, "No one else can see me unless I want them to."

"Okay. Anyway how did you die?" Emma was still worried someone would hear Violet or her.

"I told you the only thing I remember is that I'm supposed to haunt you." Violet said starting to get slightly annoyed. "Is your hair naturally that red? Or did you dye it?" Violet asked trying to change the subject.

"Natural," Emma was used to that question. "We're almost at the school I'll see you later."

"I have nowhere to go so would you mind if I went to school with you." Violet looked like a small child asking for something.

Emma sighed. "Yeah, but please don't mess anything up."

"I promise I'll be the best, quietest demon you've ever seen." Violet was thrilled.

"You're the only demon I've seen," Emma said. And hopefully the only one I'll see.
