Preston....
I looked at my phone. 7:24am. It's been 4 hours, I want her to be awake. I wanna hold her and tell her everything will be ok. But I can't...
Jacob stayed with me, but he wasn't good company. He just sat on the floor and texted his girlfriend. I didn't know what they were talking about but it seemed funny considering he laughed every 5 seconds.
I put my head in my hands and sighed. I was so tired, but I couldn't sleep. Not until I knew she was ok, not until I knew she'd be ok.
Laura...
Muffled voices filled the room. Where was I? My eyes felt heavy when I tried to open them. It hurt to breathe or move.
When I opened my eyes and my ears adjusted I realized dad, Jacob, Preston, Preston's parents, and a doctor were in the room, arguing. Dad was yelling at the doctor while Preston's parents tried to calm him down. Jacob was on the floor with earbuds in, and Preston had his head in his hands, sitting by me.
I touched Preston lightly. He jumped up and looked at me. I struggled to breathe without it hurting. I yelped silently.
Preston looked at the doctor and tried to get his attention. The doctor didn't notice him until he yelled.
"HEY! SHES AWAKE!" Preston shouted.
Everyone looked towards me. The doctor walked out of the room, probably to go get a nurse or something like that.
Preston smiled and brushed his fingers through my hair, "I'm so glad you're ok, "he whispered. I tried to tell him that it hurt, that I wanted it to stop, but I couldn't say anything.
The doctor came back with a nurse, she had a bunch of pills with her, I was guessing for me. She got out a syringe and put something in it, then injected it into my IV. She took off my breathing mask and switched it for one that went across my nose, so I could talk. Then she left. The doctor took more vitals and then left with my dad.
Preston held my hand and stared at me, happily. His hand felt warm against my skin.
"What happened? How did this happen," he asked me.
"She...was drunk. She wouldn't let me...drive and...she swerved off..the...road and we....we crashed.." It hurt to talk, I had to stop and try to breathe normally.
Preston smiled sweetly. "It'll be ok, you'll get better. Just give it time. Let yourself mourn, it's ok to cry, she was your mom."
I didn't know what he was talking about until I touched my face and felt the hot tears against my face. I sighed shakily.
Preston stared at me, I stared back into his deep blue eyes. He tried not to smile, which made me smile almost immediately.
Jacob looked at the both of us and smirked. "I ship it."
Preston's face reddened. I could feel my face get hot, I looked down at my hands. One was wrapped and one had a bunch of needles and tubes in it. I shivered.
He better be right, everything better get better.
