Laura....
Dad took me home. After being in the hospital for a week all I wanted to do was be at home, I missed home.
Right when we got home I went inside and laid on the couch. I was exhausted and weak, I couldn't walk very far. Dad picked me up and took me to my room. He dropped me on the floor. I yelped in pain, but I didn't move. He kicked me, over and over again...
"It's all your fault she died!" He yelled and kicked me harder.
My body felt like it was on fire, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't move. I felt bones in my body crack and pop as he kicked me. After what felt like hours, he picked me up by my arms and gripped me hard.
"You will pay for what you did to her you little bitch," he nearly whispered, spitting in my face.
He gripped me harder then let me go and dropped me on the ground. He left the room, slamming the door behind him.
I tried to move, to get to my bed, to feel comfortable. Pain rushed through me as I stood up. My knee popped, I covered my mouth to keep from screaming. I stumbled to my bed and grabbed my phone off of the side table. I texted Preston.
Me: you're a fucking liar
Preston: I never lied about anything
Me: nothing is getting better, it's all worse
Preston: how is everything getting worse?
Me: I need you...
Preston: are you okay?
Me: no
Preston: what's wrong?
Me: I need you to come get me
Preston: why?
Me: I need someone...
Preston: be there asap
I waited for him to come. After waiting for three hours, he finally came. Dad let me go even though it was almost midnight, he didn't care, he didn't wanna see me.
Preston helped me into the car and started driving.
"Uhm...why did you need me to come get you..?"
I sighed, I could feel tears forming in my eyes. "I...I don't wanna talk about it right now..."
We rode in silence on the way to his house. When we got there his family welcomed me with open arms, as they always do, and we went to his room.
Preston and I sat on his bed, just staring at each other. I knew he wanted to know what happened at my house that made me wanna leave so bad. I sighed and closed my eyes, then opened them again.
"He hit me..."
"Who? Your dad?"
"Yeah."
"What?! How?! When?!"
I told him what had happened. He stared at me, concerningly. Then he gently picked me up and set me in his lap. I laid my head on his chest as he wrapped his arms softly around mine. We just sat there together, neither of us said anything, we just sat there. I didn't think cuddling him was the best idea since he was sick but right now I didn't care.
"You're gonna stay here tonight," he said, "I'll be more happy knowing that your safe and not at chance of getting hurt."
I nodded. and mumbled a quick ok.
Preston...
We laid there in silence for hours. I looked into her light yellow eyes and she looked back at me. Sooner or later I dozed off. I couldn't remember what happened in between that. But it felt like I was dreaming. I wasn't.
I woke up an hour later covered in sweat, Laura brushing her fingers through my hair, over and over again. I groaned, "what happened?"
"Your fever broke," she explained.
"When?"
"Like two minutes ago."
"Oh, ok."
I got up and showered then came back. Laura was still awake. She was looking at the ceiling, obviously dozing off. I slipped back into bed and wrapped my arms around her, she jumped slightly when I touched her. She was scared.
"I won't hurt you," I comforted. She put her head on my chest and wrapped one arm across my stomach.
"I know..."
"Everything will be ok, for tonight, ok? You're safe here with me, you need to sleep."
She looked up at me with tired eyes. "Thanks for picking me up."
I brushed my fingers through her long, blonde, hair. "I wanted to spend time with you."
She smiled weakly and placed her head back on my chest. She fell asleep hours later, I just lie awake, watching her, comforting her, making sure she was safe.
"Everything will be ok," I kept whispering, on repeat all night.
