"Oh darn." I whispered.
"It's going to be okay." Said Jake. "Just do as I say."
I nodded to him and slowly backed away from the men with the guns. Jake nodded to my bow and arrows when I looked at him. I nodded in response.
"Now!" yelled Jake.
I drew and arrow and quickly picked up my bow from the ground and shot both of the men in the hands that held the guns.
"Run!" I yelled to Jake.
We ran until it felt like our hearts were going to burst out of our chests. When we finally stopped, I said,
"Who the heck were those people, and why were they trying to kill us?"
"Well," said Jake. "They were mostly trying to kill me."
"And why would they be trying to kill you exactly?" I asked. "Did you kill someone or anything?"
"No," he said. "I escaped. "And no one has ever escaped before. I was lucky to even make it out. What they did to those other guys who tried to escape before me was just horrific."
"What did they do to them?" I asked. "And who are 'they' exactly?"
"'They' are the people who set this damn thing up and the people who killed the guys who tried to escape." He replied.
"Oh." I said. "So what is this thing anyways? You seem to know a lot about it."
"It's a test." He started. "A test to determine who you are. A test to see where you belong and who you belong with."
"What the hell?" I said. "What kind of person would do something like that?"
