I was able to stay alive because of the beautiful heart you gave me.'

-------------------------------------------------------------

Kanade was hardly noticed.

She didn't mind, though.  It had been that way since middle school, when the accident happened.  Really, that accident kinda sorta ruined her whole fucking life.  But y'know, shit happens.

In an act of rebellion, at age thirteen, Kanade had gone off with her friend Misaki Ayuzawa to get matching tattoos.  Her parents had warned her that if she ever did such a thing, they'd disown her.  Kanade had promptly gave them the bird and stormed out of the house.

The silver haired girl wasn't always reserved.  She used to be outgoing, humorous even.  Behind her honeyed eyes were imaginative ideas, and a lovely perception on reality.  And oh, her voice.  It used to ring out like silver bells on Christmas day, as if she was truly an angel sent from the heavens.

No one remembered what it sounded like anymore.  After that day, not even a moment after the ink of her new tattoo dried, Kanade learned that her father and mother had been in a car accident, and just like that Kanade Tachibana was alone.  She no longer spoke, and eventually her relatives just gave up on her, leaving her to her own devices to live on her own in the large home her parents had left her with quite a sum of money.

Three years later, Kanade spent her days quietly, a result from the everlasting guilt left behind by disobeying her parents.  Her thoughts were constantly filled with "what if's," and "why's."  For all she knew, they could've been out looking for her.  That would be even worse.  Every aspect of her demeanour shrank, every spark of extroverted whims absolutely crushed with her new, muted personality.

It seemed, overnight, that everyone simply forgot about Kanade.

Not that she made much of an effort to befriend anyone other than Misaki.  They both had a particular distaste for the human race, so naturally they were drawn together.  Occasionally, Taiga Aisaka accompanied them on their antics, but only if she wasn't busy with her boyfriend,  (What was his name? Takumi?  Takasa?) and gradually Kanade eventually came to the point where she would speak in front of Misaki, but only Misaki.  Taiga had overheard Kanade while she and Misaki were staying overnight at her home once, and Kanade thought she'd never hear the end of it from the fiery girl.

While she still did attend school, she gained no peace of mind.  She moved silently through the halls, weaving in and out of people and walking at fast pace.  She didn't want anyone to see her.  Kanade, the quiet girl.  Kanade, that wierd chick.  Kanade, the murderer.  That one she kept entirely to herself, but the other teenagers in 'Mation Academy had no qualms calling her the other two.  Especially since she never defended herself.

Oh, but how she wanted to.  One little word, a small line of syllables, and she knew people would leave her alone.  But she could hardly speak around Misaki.  How would she ever speak around others?

The answer was very simple, really; she didn't.

Kanade sighed as she made her way to her third class, after watching a commotion occur between a pink haired girl and  raven haired boy.  Kanade had never seen the girl before, which was surprising, and she puzzled over it all the way to her desk in the back-left hand corner of the World History classroom.  She barely even acknowledged Misaki as she took her seat next to her, adherently lost in thought.  Miskai, however, did not seem to notice as she launched into a huge detailed one sided conversation about how she had mouthed off to a teacher first period and earned herself a detention.  Misaki was rarely in detention, but she also had quite a mouth on her at the same time.

Kanade made eye contact with Misaki so she knew she was finally listening, but at that moment class began.  She began taking notes like the angel of a student she was, before she felt an uncomfortable pressure on her arm.  She looked over to see Misaki poking her, her eyes moving back and forth between the new paper on Kanade's desk and her own eyes.  Inwardly sighing, she opened the neatly folded piece of paper ladden with scraggly handwriting that could only be her best friends.  Kanade's eyes grew wide as she read the only nine words on the page.

"Get detention! I don't want to be alone tonight!" D:

Kanade rolled her eyes and quickly scribbled her message back, (Are you serious? -_-), returning to her notes as soon as possible.  It was not long, however, until Misaki had practically thrown the paper back at Kanade, earning some looks from their classmates.  Kanade tried not to let their stares bother her as she read the note again, not surprised that Misaki was only trying to reinforce the idea that Kanade should shackle herself to the school grounds this evening.  When she looked over, Misaki was grinning at her, a devious smile on her face.  Kanade deemed that this was a bad sign and to back out of Misaki's imaginary operation immediately, but it appeared to be too late.  Misaki was already launching her plan into action, without consulting Kanade.  Typical.  Kanade turned her head towards the window, watching the sky turn from morning orange to seawater blue.  It was going to rain today, it seemed.  Kanade wondered, briefly, if it would rain all day.  She didn't have time to completely acknowledge the turning weather in her mind before Misaki let out a ear piercing scream, falling to the floor.  Kanade turned to see her friend sprawled on the nicely polished tile, her nose bleeding.  She sighed, and picked Misaki up before nodding towards the teacher and dragging her friend out of the room.  Kanade heard her teacher yell something about the nurse's office, but highly doubted Misaki's injury was real.

Naturally, she was right.  Misaki let go of Kanade as soon as they were down the hallway, removing ketchup packets from her pockets.  "You know, they always fall for this trick."  She said, admiring her handy work.  "I wonder if they'll ever figure out that I'm not actually prone to nosebleeds."

Kanade merely shrugged before turning the corner, following her friend's lead.

"Anyways, I was thinking, we need to get you detention, because I'm already there, I'm pretty sure that Taiga lives there, and I think some really nice kid from Computer Science is there.  I'm not really sure.  But it sounds like fun, you know, if the monitor leaves, which if it's Hatake again, he will."  Misaki stated, turning to look at Kanade for confirmation.  "And then we can have some real fun, if the right people are there."

Kanade grimaced.  "Why don't I just show up, if you want me to go so bad?  I don't really want to get a detention on my record."

Misaki's eyes did a clean sweep of the hall, just like she always did when Kanade decided to speak before continuing.  "I mean, I guess that could work.  I'm generally a model student, too, so if we both show up, they'll just think we missed a test or something.  The monitor shouldn't ask too many questions."

The small white haired girl didn't say anything else as she thought about what the night would lie in store for her.  Detention didn't sound fun at all, but Misaki was pushing her to go, and she rarely said no to Misaki.  While the idea wasn't particularly appealing, if her friend wanted her there, she'd be there.

Misaki's idea was still swirling in her head as they passed the music room, and Kanade thought about that, briefly, too.  But she quickly rid herself of the imagery, deciding that if bad ideas were lingering in her mind, returning to music was definitely one of them.
