(Lunch)

Grayson's POV

Jack was out sick today so it was just me. I asked Emma before lunch, if she wanted to sit with me rather than sitting alone. She was hesitant at first but agreed to meet me in the cafeteria where I would usually sit with Jack.
I went up to get a tray and then got in line to get my lunch. After I got my lunch, I walked over to the table where I was supposed to meet Emma and waited for her to come. Ten minutes had passed and she still wasn't in the cafeteria. I began to think she blew me off. "Where is she?" I thought to myself. Maybe I'm just being ridiculous, she's probably late talking to a teacher or something. Another five minutes has gone by and she still hasn't come. I began to worry.
I finished my lunch and walked out of the cafeteria and began to search the halls for her. The halls were quiet. There seemed to be no one in them, which is weird because tons of people leave their classes to talk to their friends.
I continued walking, and out of no where I heard a scream. I instantly knew who it was.

Emma.

I ran as quickly as I could to see what was happening. By the time I got to the scene, I saw Emma on the floor with a bloody nose, small cuts on her face, and a black and blue eye that was beginning to form and swell. "What the hell happened to you?!" I panicked and held her in my arms so she wasn't on the cold bare floor.
"T-They came at me." She said frightened.
"Who?!"
"I-I don't know...their faces were covered."
Tears were welling up in her eyes and all I could think of doing was getting back at whoever did this to her.
"Don't worry, I'm here now." I tried comforting her as best as I could. I wiped away her tears and helped her up so she could clean herself up in the women's restroom. We got up and began walking.
When we arrived at the restroom, I waited outside for her to finish up. As I waited, all I could do was try and process what just happened moments ago. I was furious.
Still waiting, a figure suddenly approached me. It was Sarah.
"Hey cutie" she said to me with a big smile.
"What do you want, Sarah?" I was annoyed and didn't want to talk to anyone at this point.
"Ouch...why the sour attitude babe?" she giggled looking at me with her blue eyes.
"Just get out of here." I snapped.
"Okay, I will...after you tell me why you're standing outside the women's restroom." She raised her eyebrow at me with her arms crossed.
"It's none of your business, now leave." My voice was raised and I got more angry.
She looked at me for a brief moment before speaking.
"By the way, that new girl is a waste of your time. You don't need her." She smirked. Before I could say anything, she kissed my cheek and walked away.

Emma's POV

I looked at myself in the mirror and wasn't surprised with what I saw. None of this was new to me. I splashed cold water onto my face. The cold water seeped into the fresh cuts that I received from the people who attacked me.

It hurt like a bitch.

I finished up and was about to make my way out of the restroom, when I heard a voice. I stopped in place and listened to what was happening. The voice I heard came from Sarah. I poked my head out of the restroom just enough to see her. She was talking to Grayson.
"By the way, that new girl is a waste of your time. You don't need her." She kissed his cheek and walked away.
I still can't believe he talks to her. It bothered me, but she knew him longer, plus, I can't control who he talks to.
After she left, I stepped out of the restroom where Grayson was waiting for me.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Grayson said as he looked into my eyes.
I tried to pretend like I didn't see what just happened between him and Sarah.
"I'm doing better, thanks." I attempted to show off a smile even though I didn't want to.
"Oh, okay. I'm glad." He gave me a faint smile.
"Just to let you know, the people who did this to you aren't getting away with it."
"Grayson...please don't worry about it. I'm fine." I tried to sound confident in what I was saying but every part of me felt broken inside.
"No, Em. I'm not letting them get away with this. I care about you."
As the words "I care about you" escaped his lips, I looked at him for a few seconds and then hugged him tightly.
"Thank you, Grayson. Because of you, I finally feel like I have a friend." A small tear shed down my face.
He hugged me back lightly. "You're welcome, Em. I'll always be here for you."
I felt safe in his arms, and I never wanted to leave them.

Well...that was an interesting chapter. It's getting a little difficult for me to think of things to type lol. I felt like this chapter is really starting to bring these two "strangers" together. I'm starting to really enjoy making this :,) Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! Until next time...
Peace✌🏼️
