The blue bland walls in the corridors combined with the anti-bacterial hand gel was enough to trigger a tremendous nightmare.Leo shivered as the footsteps coming from doctors and nurses clacked on the marble floor wakening him up from his paranoia.
His head lowered as if in shame and defeat that he couldn't protect his friend like he said. He didn't protect her from the worst and now all of this was crumpling up in his mind, tormenting the young mind of his.
When he was about to diverse from the ground-breaking event, a trail of footsteps echoed through the nearly crowded waiting room. He was afraid to look up, he was afraid to face whoever has marked their presence.
A hand was placed on Leo's tensed shoulder that was bound to hurt from the uncomfortable position. He immediately looked up, surprised at receiving a quiet gesture. A group of teary eyes were staring right back at him, the tension rising up in the air. He was so close to suffocating himself.
"Madame I-" Leo needed to explain. He wanted to tell that it wasn't his fault.
"Leo, sweetie. It's not your fault. I knew you were going to say that. In this heart-tearing situation, I can only be glad that she was by your side. You are taking a great care of my daughter." Piper's mom sat on the hospital chair, leaning her head back in a matter of enduring physical pain.
She was emotionally unstable. Just like Leo. Although he covered it pretty convincing, he felt as if he was being chopped in thousand uncountable pieces.
Leo abruptly stood up as if he got burnt just now and started furiously checking for his phone in the jean pocket. Piper's mom along with the group of relatives stared at his random action through a hurtful expression.
Then his fingers were working a marathon as they tapped furiously, one letter after the other.
"Hello I need a favor." Leo pressed his phone closer to his ear as he waltzed out of the waiting room for some privacy.
"It's about Piper. I need your help." Leo started walking in circles as he was waiting for the reply from the person he called.
The recipient replied with a quick 'okay' as he ended the call leaving Leo to wait for his arrival. He knew that calling Carlos will be the only option that could save Piper's life. He wasn't just going to sit and wait for the doctors to bring her back.
Carlos was a miracle that was covered behind his rounded grey rimmed glasses and an unshaved beard. His attire didn't live up to the miracles he has performed on his patients.
Leo without any hesitation turned to him for help. Carlos was not only a miracle savior but he was someone that knew Leo that well like reading the back of his hand.
He knew that Leo's eyes were only meant for looking at Piper.
