CHAPTER 1

Skylar Adams. What a normal name for a peculiar girl. She was no doubt the prettiest girl at her school. Her long brown curls cascaded to the middle of her back, and she had gorgeous hazel eyes. She was petite and slightly taller than average. Skylar was easily the nicest person around. All the guys wanted her and all the girls wanted to be her. But she was holding a secret, a deep secret that only her soul knew.

"Get up, Dean is already here," Skylar's father muttered as he nudged her roughly. She slowly got out of bed to get ready. Her arm still hurt from yesterday's beating, but she didn't complain. It would only lead to more pain. Skylar pulled on a plain white v-neck and a pair of jeans. As she descended the stairs, her father was on the couch with a bottle in his hands. He was probably drunk.

Skylar walked out of the front door without saying a word to him. Dean was waiting patiently on her lawn. He smiled at her.

"Ready?" he asked as she approached him.

"N-no," she replied shakily. She wasn't ready for this. It was too soon.

"I'll be here for you," Dean said quietly as he took her hand in his. She nodded. Dean had been her best friend since first grade and the two of them had stuck together ever since. He had always been there for her. He still was.

They got into the car. Dean's brother, Mike, was driving them.

"Why, hello Sky," Mike said as he smiled at her.

"Hi Mike," she said back, her smile slowly fading as she thought about where they were heading.

"It'll be okay, kid," Mike said quietly. As he started the engine, the roar filling the silence and for once Skylar was grateful.
