Percy P.O.V
I panic as Ombre della Morte falls out of the window. Running through the shatterd glass and to the window, I watch as he falls, everything slowing down until each millisecond seems to be an hour. The police have arrived along with a SWAT team, though they are useless now. Morte, cool even in the face of mortal peril, gives me a smile and a small wave as he nears the pavement.
A loud crunch echoes throught the night.
My eyes shut tightly, my head shaking in disbelief.
It's not my fault, I know that. I didn't make the choice for this to happen, though I definitely played a part in what has happened tonight. But I feel like I should go down there and help clean up, none the less. It's not my job, either way. Helping too much, while it seems like the right thing to do, makes me and subsequently other superheroes into a crutch to be used when things go even slightly wrong.
Making my decision, I back away from the ledge. I make my exit, leaving only a cloud of sea mist, slowly fading into the night.
