Silence roamed the long halls, as it does every night. Inside each cell was a number of people ranging from young children to old men and women. They all lay still, each of their chests rising and falling gently at their own paces. All of them were happily dreaming their worries and fears away. All, except for one boy, but he wasn't alone.
"Why are you doing this to us?!" the little boy cried as he struggled against the metal clamps that held him down. "You're hurting everyone!" he screeched in anger as he was completely restrained.
"Be quiet will you," the scientist snapped. He sighed and rubbed his temples momentarily. "I am doing this for humanity's benefit. If a few thousand have to die for over seven billion to survive... Then I am willing to take that risk," he said as he went to a machine and pushed some buttons.
"But that isn't fair for us! Why do people have to die?! I never wanted anyone to die! Lilly never deserved to feel so much agony!" he retorted angrily to the older man.
"... Subject 27B was unstable to begin with. I don't know how she would've reacted if she came face to face with one of them. It was smarter to let her die off than to let her suffer for any longer. Thus, I disposed of her," he explained.
"Disposed?! You talk about Lilly as if she was some defective toy!" the boy shrieked.
"That's enough!" the man shouted. Silence was his only answer as the boy looked up at him, rage still burning in his eyes. "The machine is ready. I have one piece of advice for you," he said quietly as the machine began to glow, only inches from the boy's face. His face, which was once contorted with rage, was now washed away by fear."Don't blink."
