Prologue
Jocelyn (P.O.V)
"Jocelyn." I glanced up from my book that I was intently reading until my mother interrupted me. "Look who is staying with us for a while." My mother said sweetly. My eyes glared at the devil currently standing next to my mother. Okay, she wasn't the devil, but as close as your going to get. The devil's name is Selena and she is my cousin. Joy!
When we were five we would twirl around in our little tutus while dancing the day away. Everyday we would play together creating unique dance performances. Afterwards, we would give our parents a performance. We were the best of friends. Then one day, our relationship started to fall apart. For some unknown reason, we started to dislike each other. The hatred still continues through out the years. When she is in my sight, I want to cause physical pain to the next person my eyes lay on. Though right now she looked like a train wreck.
Her black hair was unkempt compared to my auburn hair that was neatly placed in a messy bun. Her normal brown eyes, that contrasted my green ones, were now red and poofy. The clothes she was wearing were as if they came from a thrift shop, which they most likely did.
"Selena was living with Victor, but then he was in an accident. Now she will be living with us for the time being until Victor is better." That tidbit of information surprised me. I never knew Selena was living with Victor. I thought she was in foster care. I guess not. For a split second I felt a little sympathetic for Selena. It was apparent that whatever happened to Victor had been serious. Then that split second was gone and I went back to despising her.
"Since we don't have a room for you yet you will be staying in Jocelyn's room until we build one. Is that alright Selena?" Selena glared at me, then quickly changed that glare to a smile. "That's fine Aunt Mel." My mother smiled. "Your father won't be home until around 5 o'clock, so in the mean time why don't you help set up a bed in your room." My mother grabbed one of Selena's bags then handed it to me. "Here take this to your room and help Selena unpack please." "But Mom..." I began. "No buts! Now do as I say or your grounded." My mother scowled. "Alright." I groaned.
I slowly traveled my way up the stairs with Selena in pursuit. I opened my door to my room to reveal my large bedroom. It was the size of two large master bedrooms combined. On my left was my bathroom that was as big as a regular bedroom, and to my right was my walk in closet that was about the same size as my bathroom. My father owns the newspaper "Daily Times" and my mother is a Pilates instructor, so we are quite wealthy.
I glanced over to find Selena's face in awe. She noticed I was staring at her, so she glared back at me hoping I didn't notice her expression. I just smirked back at her. She glanced at my pointe ballet shoes that were on my bedside stand. "So your still doing ballet then?" she asked with honest curiousity even though it seemed she knew the answer. "Of course, but I'm more into Jazz. What about you?" I asked. She was hesitant for a moment. "No I quit doing ballet because it costed to much and it reminded me of you." I felt like I had just been slapped in the face. Did she really just say that? "I see, so your not dancing at all then?" I questioned pretending that hers words didn't faze me. "Well I switched over to hip hop. Victor always wanted to do that, but since we were on a tight budget he gave me my dream instead." I looked at her. "Your dream or his dream??" She flinched. It was quiet for a moment.
"What happened to him?" I said trying to break the awkward silence. Curosity was now running through my head. She looked at me sourly. "Why would you even care witch?!" Really? Witch that's the best she can come up with. The nerve of that girl! "Sorry! I was just wondering why you suddenly had to show up-" Selena suddenly interrupted me. "He's in a coma... He was in a car accident!" You could spot the tears threatening to break from her eyes. I felt somewhat sorry for the girl. She didn't have a father and her brother was in a car accident. She didn't have any money or a home. Here I was with perfectly wonderful parents and was very wealthy. I started to walk over to Selena to try comforting her. "Oh... Selena I'm so sorr-" I was then prevented from finishing that sentence. My mother called us downstairs. Selena wiped away the tears that were forcing their way out of her eyes. She down stairs as quickly as she could. I then chased after her.
There layed across the floor was a mattress and a frame for a bed. "I need you two to carry this to Jocelyn's room. Since it was such short notice I didn't have time to hire movers. I trust you guys can do this by yourselves, so I'm going to check on dinner." I groaned. My mother left to the kitchen. Selena and I grabbed two different ends of the mattress. Her end went up the stairs first while mine followed behind. All of a sudden her new phone my mother bought her started ringing. She let go of the mattress with one hand. "Hello?" She answered. "Telemarketer?" She let go of the mattress with her other hand, then quickly traveled upstairs towards my room. "Um...no, I wouldn't like to buy a guitar signed by Taylor Lautner. He isn't even a singer is he?!" You could hear the feint voice of Selena say before she walked into my room, and silently closed the door. The mattress that I was originally holding was now jammed on top of me.
Really!? What kind of person abandons what they're doing just to talk to a telemarketer? Ugh! Oh right! My devil of a cousin. That's about right! After I had yelled at Selena to come help me, we had put together the bed, but not without difficulty. When we were finished my mom came into my room. "Selena darling, if there is anything you need please let me know alright?" She thought about that for a moment. "Well there is one thing...." she paused and gazed down at her feet. "Samara, my cat, well she's still at my house and I can't just leave her there so I was wondering if-"
"You still have Samara?!" I asked in shock. I loved that cat like it was my own. "Yeah, I still have her. Anyways can I let her stay over here?" Selena said. "Of course Selena. We can pick her up tomorrow If there is anything else you need like clothes, food, or money please let me know." Selena winced when my mother said money. "Yes thank you so much for taking me in.Well I better get to bed." she said while yawning. "Alright," my mom said giving us both hugs. "Goodnight!" She turned the lights off and no more then a few minutes Selena started snoring. I don't know if that was real or she is just trying to get on my nerves. I put a pillow over my head, then i heard a really loud snore. This is going to be a long night!
