The police and fire department arrived rushing past us towards the burning house in a desperate attempt to salvage what was left of Andrea’s room. Keeping Boogeyman hidden from the cops was really impossible now that he was part of an explosion, so I left him alone. If the cops wanted to really interrogate him then they could try.

I stood back on the sidewalk watching the sun rise over the back of the house cast tall standing towers of orange light up into the sky turning all the clouds a pink-grey. It was a symphony of colours as some of the dark clouds parted showing a bright blue June sky.

Somebody behind me cleared their throat, when I didn’t turn around they repeated themselves clearing a little louder. Sighing heavily I shut my eyes turning to face the phantom phlegmer. Behind me stood Jericho, deputy to our sheriff, He smiled down at me and nodded tilting his dark blue hat to me, the motion confused me.

“How are you Fabelle?” He asked stepping up to stand closer to me.

I raised an eyebrow while taking a step back, “I’m pretty good. I mean I did nearly get blown up but other than that yeah I’m just peachy.” I said smiling widely at him.

He cleared his throat looking over to where Andrea and Neil were in the back of the ambulance being checked over by the paramedics. Jericho pointed with his thumb to the box like vehicle with bright orange and blue lettering EMS on the side.

“Have you been checked out?” He asked.

“I’m fine. I just want to go home.” I sighed turning my back to him.

Boogeyman who stared at the rising sun his face blank and his eyes narrowed as he concentrated on something I still could not see. I was beginning to get antsy, my curiosity to know what he saw was eating me alive.

“Who’s he?” Jericho snapped stepping up beside me.

“A friend. He saved our lives.” I muttered my eyebrows furrowing, why would he save us?

What had happened to my spell, he should have been released back to wherever he had come from. Guilt gnawed at me from the inside, he had brothers he had to get back to brothers that needed his help.

“Friend my ass, I’ve never seen him before in my life.”

“He’s my friend Jerry, leave it alone alright?” I snapped at him my patience breaking.

Jericho stepped back from me holding his hands up, “Calm down there Fabelle, I’m a cop I have to investigate all angles. He isn’t a familiar face he stands out. Anyways, what’s this guy’s name?”

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest, “His name is Beau Ogeyman.”

“Alright, no need to get snappy. I’ll go and talk to Mr. Ogeyman.”

Out of the corner of my eye I caught Boogeyman move appearing right beside Jericho and myself, his looming stature casting dark shadows over us like a mountain rising in the morning sun.

“What question do you need answered?” He asked Jericho in his dark rumbling voice, like thunder a mile away.

Jericho looked from Boogeyman to me before sucking in his gut and turning to face him fully, “When did you arrive in Angelo Ridge?” He pulled out a small black scratch pad with a detachable pencil.

“Earlier this evening, I was called by Fabelle.” He answered, technically he was telling the truth, I had called him.

I smirked nodding my head and turning my back to them, keeping their conversation floating just in earshot as I focused on the sky. What could the Nightmare King see in the morning sky, that I could not?
