Driving home from the date, my mind was racing over reasons why the kiss between Peter and I hadn’t produced a spark.  With my ex-boyfriend and even with Leo, the first kiss had kept me wanting more, and made me feel like I was walking on water.  Maybe I just needed to kiss him again and get to know him better, then the spark will come.

Thinking of Leo, I called him to talk about the plans Monday.

“Hello?” Leo spoke in his strong voice.

         “Hey Leo, it’s Harper.”

“Hey, how are you?” he asked.

“I’m pretty good.  I just wanted to talk to you about Monday.”

“Alright.  When do you want to leave?”

“I was thinking around ten a.m., that way we can be home by one or two.”

“Yeah, that sounds great.  I can take a cab to your place and be there a little bit before ten.”

I told him that was perfect and gave him my address.

“Okay I’ll be there.  I really appreciate this, Harper.”

“No problem.  I’m just happy I’ll have company.”

“Yeah, I know.  Car rides are so boring.”

“Oh my God, yeah.  That was the worst.”

“And so boring.  I love that book, but hearing a monotone voice read it aloud for three hours was unbearable, especially when she would yell at me everytime I tried to talk to you.”

“What a bitch." Leo laughed.  "Well I gotta go, but I’ll see you Monday.”

“Okay, great.  See you then.” I said, and hung up.

By then I had already parked my car in the parking lot and was at my apartment door, searching for my keys.  It wasn’t until then that I realized Tessa would probably be home.  Usually, Saturday nights were when her and Henry had spent the night at his place.  I turned the doorknob and sure enough, it opened.  Tessa was lying on the couch, watching TV.

“Hey Tess.” I said, putting my purse and keys on the table and slipping out of my coat.  I walked over to her, sitting on the small spot open on the couch.  “How are you doing?”

“I’ve been better.” She said, sitting up.  “I have told you before that Henry remembers everything and always celebrates small things that meant a lot to us.  Today four years ago is the day we met.  It took him almost a year to ask me out, since we were just introduced for a second at a mutual friend’s birthday party.” She sighed and tears filled her eyes.  “I just miss him so much, Harper.”

“I know.” I said, holding out my arms and letting her collapse in them.  As the days went on, there were less and less things that I could say to make Tessa fee
