And God spoke to the Archangel Gabriel and said, “I have done it!”

Gabriel asked, “What hast thou done, O Lord?”

“I have created love, beauty, grace, happiness and placed it into my finest creation!” replied the Heavenly Father.

Gabriel again queried the Lord, “What is this wonderful creation?”

The Lord spake  “ It is woman, but you know of women Gabriel.  This one is special. She has been given my Grace, my Beauty."

And Gabriel spoke to the Cherubim and Seraphim of the Lord’s creation.  Thus did the angelic host beseech God to tell them of the wondrous creation he had wrought.  He told them the tale of creating this new gift . As the tale finished, the Cherubim asked how a mortal could be given such gifts.

God replied, “She shall walk the earth and her beauty shall inspire men to bestow princely earthly treasures upon her.  These men shall only see the beauty of the flesh they shall be blind to the beauty I have placed in her soul.  She is not for them.”

“But why O Lord shall you blind the humans to her true kindness?” cried the Seraphim.

“Question not your Lord!” God bellowed. “She shall bestow her kindness upon the world entire, upon all others. She shall do this freely as it shall be her nature to do so. And those she touches with her heart shall rejoice in her presence.”

The angelic host begged the Lord to allow them to watch over her; to protect her life. To this, he agreed and parted the heavens to set her gently upon the Earth. The Seraphim and Cherubim peered down from the heavens and were vigilant.

The angels watched over her as she grew into the woman she was destined to become. They saw her care for her family and friends selflessly.  They rejoiced as she brought love and beauty to the world around her. She became dear to their hearts and they kept her safe.

One day the Lord commanded the angels to look down on another of his creations.  “Watch this poor wretch whom I have given toil, sadness, and emptiness. Tell me what you see of him.”

The chorus of angels replied, “We see a bent back from his labors. We see a horribly disfigure visage. We see that he has lost sight of You, O Lord, and he deserves his fate.”

“Does he?” asked the Lord. “He appears to have lost his faith yet he has faith in humanity. Watch his actions see his heart and perhaps you shall see more than you expect.”   The angels watched and began to see the true soul of this man.  “He claims to not know the love of the Lord, yet he searches for love daily.  How can this be?” God questioned of his heavenly children.  He then paused and looked down upon the Earth.

As the Lord looked down, he watched the man walk down the arid road, and he took pity upon him. He placed a grand flowering tree on one side of the road, and caused the man to become fatigued.

The man thought to himself, “I shall stop in the shade of this fine tree and rest for a time.”  He closed his eyes, just for a moment, and fell fast asleep.  As the man slept, the Lord caused the woman to travel down the same arid road and she saw him sleeping there.  She saw not the poor wretch; what she saw was not the poor twisted creature, but rather his soul. She saw the potential for good and the kindness that lived within him. In her eyes he had a beauty he never knew in life.

After a time, he awoke and gazed upon her face. “Are you an angel of the Lord come to protect me as I rest?”

The music of her laughter sang in his ears as she replied, “No angel am I, but I saw you resting there and thought I would stay until you awoke. You looked so parched and worn, I thought I would share some of my water with you before you resume your travels.”
